Dear YKUC Friends:
Hello from Star of the North Retreat Centre in St. Albert, AB! I'm currently enjoying 3 days with United Church clergy from Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. I can't wait to tell you all about it, especially about another congregation in our region who has been inspired by our unique "commuting minister" arrangement, but for the moment, I'm asking for a favour.
(It's taken me a few tries to write this, because SO MANY phishing/scam emails begin this way. "I'm on the road, and I need help!" "Brothers and sisters in Christ, have mercy!" My first few attempts at a subject line wouldn't have even made it past your spam filters, trust me.)
I'm looking for someone who is willing to host a young woman named Sian, who will be stranded in Yellowknife tonight. Sian is a friend of a friend of my son Alex. It's a long story, but Sian is on her way back to Vancouver from Fort Smith. Her itinerary got messed up, and now she has an unplanned night in Yellowknife, without a lot of budget for a hotel room.
Sian will be landing in Yellowknife around 6pm tonight, Wednesday May 6th, and will fly out tomorrow morning, likely on the early morning flight to Vancouver. I'm looking for someone who would meet her at the airport, feed her dinner and put her up for the night, and then help her organize transportation to the airport in the morning.
If you can help, please text me at
647.287.4489 (I have limited access to my email this week) to let me know, and I'll connect you with Sian and her friend Sophia, and tell you the whole story!
Notice how I haven't asked you for gift cards, money, or to click on ANY links??
Thanks, friends. I'll be back in Yellowknife a week from tomorrow, and I can't wait to catch up. I've been on the road so much, it feels like I've been gone a year.
Cheers,
Alison
