Yellowknife Pride Parade - June 14, 2026
Once again, YKUC will march in the YK Pride Parade, taking place after
worship on June 14th. There will be a shorter worship service at 10am,
and then we will walk together to Somba 'Ke park to take our place to
march. Please circle your calendars for this important event! We are the
only Christian faith community in Yellowknife who participates in Pride,
and our visibility as affirming Christians is critical.

Pride Parade Sign-Making - Wednesday, June 10th at 7pm at the Manse
We have a good supply of signs from last year's march, but it's always a
good idea to add to our stash! Join Rev. Bev at the Manse on Wednesday
night to get ready for Pride! Rev. Alison is SO sad to miss YK Pride
this year, but this congregation always does the UCC proud!

Blue Bins:
We are now seeking volunteers for the following openings over the summer

June 23-30 Coop (ONE WEEK)
July 1-15 Independent and Fieldhouse
July 16-31 COOP
July 16-31 Independent and Fieldhouse
August 1-15 COOP
August 1-15 Independent and Fieldhouse
August 16-31 Coop
August 16-31 Independent and Fieldhouse

If you are able to help out, please let Terrilyn or Marg know.
Summer can be a busy time and if you would like to help but spend
weekends at the cabin or campground, that’s ok. We have volunteers who
can help out on weekends.
Remember that if you have students needing Community Service hours, this
is eligible. If you don’t have a car but would like to help, we can find
you a partner with a vehicle that just needs an extra pair of hands.
Many hands make light work and we appreciate your help on this
worthwhile project that contributes to the life and work of the church.

Thank you from the Stewardship committee.

1- Bev is here until the end of June. She will not be keeping specific
office hours during this time but her number is 867 334 6606 and her
email is bcsbr...@live.ca. If you would like to make an appointment
with her for any reason, she'll be very pleased to meet with you at a
time of mutual convenience
2- Bev holds Bible study online every Tuesday at 4 pm. The group is
currently working its way through the book of Acts. You're very welcome
to join us. Email Bev for the zoom link.
3- Wednesdays at the manse will continue through June. They will have a
different focus, however. Because Bev is - to put it mildly - NOT a
craft person, we'll be writing letters for Amnesty International on
behalf of those who have been persecuted/imprisoned for their sexual
orientation. Templates will be provided.

Mission and Service Story:

Making Joyful Noise

Throughout scripture, music is part of how people express joy, hope,
grief, and praise. From the Psalms to songs of celebration and courage,
music has long helped people connect with God, one another, and themselves.

At First-St. Andrew’s United Church in London, Ontario, two music
programs, the “Treblemakers” and “Reverberations” programs, help
children and youth discover that same gift today.

For many young people, music is more than something to listen to. It can
build confidence, reduce stress, strengthen learning skills, and create
a sense of belonging. But as the cost of living continues to rise, many
families are finding it harder to afford opportunities like music
lessons, instruments, or arts programs for their children.

First-St. Andrew’s music programs help to ensure young people do not
miss out.

Open to children and youth aged 3 to 17, the weekly programs offer a
welcoming space where participants can explore music, creativity, and
community together for a low fee. Each gathering begins with a shared
meal, providing nourishment before children move into activities like
singing, handbells, chimes, and drama.

The impact goes far beyond learning notes or rhythms.

Programs like Treblemakers and Reverberations help young people develop
confidence by trying new things and performing together. They encourage
teamwork, creativity, and self-expression while offering a safe place
and a reliable meal. Music also supports cognitive development, memory,
focus, and emotional well-being—benefits that can shape a child’s growth.

For some families, programs like this may be among the few accessible
extracurricular opportunities available to their children. By lowering
financial barriers and creating an inclusive environment, First-St.
Andrew’s aims to ensure every child has the chance to grow and shine.

In a world where many young people are carrying stress, isolation, or
uncertainty, spaces of creativity and belonging matter deeply. Through
music, meals, laughter, and shared experiences, children and youth are
discovering not only new skills, but also confidence, friendship, and joy.

Through Mission and Service, we support communities and ministries that
nurture young people in body, mind, and spirit. Together, we are helping
create spaces where children and youth can discover their gifts, build
confidence, and know they belong. Make your gift to Mission and Service
today.

Campfires and Confidence

For 60 years, Arthur Kidston Memorial Camp has been a place where
children and youth can unplug from screens, connect with nature, and
discover new strengths in themselves. In 2026, the camp is celebrating
six decades of outdoor adventure, friendship, and belonging on the
shores of Long Lake in Nova Scotia.

At Camp Kidston, children and youth spend their days canoeing and
kayaking, trying slack lines and bog-walking, exploring the outdoors,
making crafts, and building confidence through games and leadership
opportunities. Campers are encouraged to try new things, build
friendships, and simply enjoy being kids.

Our gifts through Mission and Service help make these experiences
possible by providing specialized recreational equipment and supplies
that go beyond the basics. New life vests for paddling programs, updated
sports equipment, and nature exploration kits help make camp safer, more
engaging, and more accessible for every child.

These gifts are about more than equipment. They help children build
confidence as they learn new skills and discover what they are capable
of. They help ensure that every camper, regardless of background, can
fully participate in the fun, learning, and adventure that camp offers.
And they help create memories that young people carry with them long
after summer ends.

Even during the challenges of the summer of 2025, including extreme heat
and a region-wide fire ban, Camp Kidston was filled with joy and
creativity. Campers enjoyed waterfront adventures, theme days,
team-building activities, and imaginative campfire alternatives created
by staff. Leadership programs for teens continued to grow, and families
spoke about the sense of belonging their children experienced at camp.

As Camp Kidston celebrates its 60th anniversary, our gifts through
Mission and Service are helping ensure that children and youth can
continue to experience the wonder, friendship, and confidence-building
that camp makes possible for years to come.
