The annual YWCA Yellowknife drive to collect toiletries for northern
families in need is now on. This year Diana’s Closet runs from April
19 to May 2. The name Diana’s Closet is inspired by the Roman goddess,
Diana, who looked after women.Often women and children arrive at the
Alison McAteer House family violence shelter with little more than the
clothes on their back. Housing and food are provided, but there is
simply nothing left for personal care items such as pads, tampons,
diapers, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, lotion,
combs and brushes. Likewise, families who live at the YWCA’s emergency
and transitional housing program are challenged to stretch their
meager incomes to buy these necessities, after paying for rent and
food. Many of us collected Shoppers Optimum points and now is a good
time to redeem some of them for this worthwhile cause.Donations of
unopened products can be made during regular business hours to
Sutherland Drugs, Weaver & Devore, CBC North, Yellowknife Co-op and
the YWCA Yellowknife Administration Office at 4904 54 Ave.. For more
