Greetings, much-loved Yellowknife United Church friends:

I am so thankful for the warm welcome (back) to Yellowknife that has been extended to me since arriving in town last weekend. We shared a lovely Sunday worship service, the manse was outfitted with all the comforts of home, and there were enough hugs and smiles to fill my heart to bursting. It is truly wonderful to be back in this place I love so much.

For those who don't know me, my name is Alison Mock, and I served YKUC as a ministry intern in the fall of 2014. I lived here for 5 months with my family - husband Derek, and two sons Alex and James, who were little back then, but are teenagers now. Our family is based in Mississauga, ON. Derek runs a big data analytics company, Alex just graduated high school and is off to the University of British Columbia in September, and James is about to begin Grade 9. They are both musicians, playing double bass and drums respectively (it's LOUD in our home). James is active in Scouting, and Alex is about to embark on his studies in environmental science and natural resource conservation. I also find myself missing our two tortoiseshell cats, Nala and Abbey. The Yellowknife branch of my family includes my Aunt Cynthia Brown, who is a houseboater here, and has lived here in town since 1975. Cynthia's partner Tony is better known to the community as Snowking, and we have had the pleasure of playing in the snow castle twice over the years.

As well as YKUC, I have served various congregations around Mississauga, Toronto, and Hamilton. This summer marks a return to ministry after some time away from the church. Since 2018, I've been training and working as a licensed Funeral Director, which includes all aspects of caring for the deceased and their families. It's rewarding work and a second vocation for me, and taught me more than I ever thought I could learn about the nature of death and dying, at least in a suburban Ontario context.

I'm really excited to be back in church life, and I can't imagine better folks to welcome me back. I'll be here until August 20th, and here's how you can reach me:

Office Hours at YKUC: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9am-12pm. Please feel free to drop by for a chat, no appointment needed!

Phone: call or text me at 647.287.4489. I do keep my phone on silent at least some of the time, but I'll respond as soon as I'm able.

Website: alisonmock.ca - I post some of my sermons here, as well as the odd blog musing. It's a brand-new site and I'm just getting the hang of it, so please be patient! The sermon from Sunday, July 14th is called Dancing in the Streets, and it should be the top link if you click on the "Selected Videos and Manuscripts" page.

Cheers and see you Sunday!
