It's a new year and a new sheet on the flip chart! Thanks for the
fantastic participation through Advent and Christmas. Ever wondered how
the coffee gets made? Or how the dishwasher works? We would love to
share the inside scoop on these holy activities 😊! Please consider
signing up on Sunday.
From Rev. Alison:
Hello from somewhere over Winnipeg! I’m thrilled to be on a plane headed
north after a much-needed break in Ontario. I hear y’all had an eventful
(if wet) Christmas Eve, but that the celebrations of the season were
wonderful and meaningful despite the hiccups.
I’m excited to see you all on Sunday. This week, you have a homework
assignment (actually, it’s just something to bring). We are going to be
learning together about baptism and the sacraments, and this is a highly
participatory service for all ages.
Your first task: please bring along a favourite stuffed animal, doll,
toy, or other friend that you would like to include and welcome into our
church family.
Your second task: if you have a Bible that contains any language other
than English, a picture/children’s Bible, or any other Bible is that is
unique or special to you in any way, please bring it along.
Your final task: when you are sick or going through a hard time, what is
your favourite comfort item? Chicken soup? A hug? A new comic book? If
you can, bring the item along, or just the idea of it!
All will be revealed on Sunday. See you then!
Christmas sock update:
The Christmas sock program, coordinated by the Outreach committee, was
once again a success. This year our church was able to provide 58 pairs
of warm socks, exceeding our target of 50. Each pair was stuffed with
winter gloves, a toque, other useful items, and treats. Each pair went
to someone in Yellowknife who was staying at a shelter at Christmastime.
Many thanks to all for your ongoing generosity and support for this
program.
Book Club – We meet on February 1’st to discuss The Book of Joy by the
Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu. These two great spiritual masters share
their own hard-won wisdom about living with joy even in the face of
adversity. The public library has one hard copy, you can order it by
interlibrary loan, and it is available on the library’s Libby site in
both audio and text. We meet on February 1’st after church in room 215.
All are welcome.

We are now into 2026 and looking to fill the schedule for the next
little while.
Looking for volunteers for the following to fill our schedule to the end
of February.
Jan 16-31 Coop
Jan 16-31 Independent & Fieldhouse
Feb 1-15 Independent & Fieldhouse
Feb 1-15 Coop
The schedule is open beyond February so if those dates don’t work for
you but you can help at another time, please let Terrilyn know. She can
be reached at
terrily...@theedge.ca
Remember that if you have school aged kids that need community service
hours, this does count and we are willing to complete any documents they
need. If you would like to help but maybe don’t have a vehicle or if
you have a vehicle but would like an extra pair of hands to help, please
let Terrilyn know. We can match you with someone. Remember-- many hands
make light work, and we extend a huge thank you to all our volunteers!
Mission and Service Story:
In St. John’s, NL, Hungry Heart Café & Catering is a place where good
food and good hearts come together. For 18 years, this social enterprise
of Mission and Service partner Stella’s Circle has been serving the
community while opening doors for people who face barriers to employment.
At Hungry Heart, every dish tells a story of learning and possibility.
The café provides hands-on culinary training and real work experience
for people who are rebuilding their lives. Many participants live with
the impacts of mental health challenges, trauma, poverty, homelessness,
or low literacy. Some are trying to re-enter the workforce after long
absences.
What they find at Hungry Heart is a safe space to learn at their own
pace. Staff offer mentorship, life-skills support, and steady
encouragement. The goal isn’t just to teach restaurant skills. It’s to
help people gain confidence, develop independence, and imagine a future
where they can thrive.
Food security is another part of the café’s mission. Through the Meals
Squared program, customers can add a small donation to their bill. That
donation goes directly toward providing nutritious meals to Stella’s
Circle participants and other neighbours who are experiencing hunger.
It’s a simple way to care for the community, one meal at a time.
And behind it all is Stella’s Circle, a Mission and Service partner
known for responding quickly to changing needs, and for creating
programs that meet people where they are. Whether it’s updating training
opportunities, collaborating with community groups, or addressing rising
food insecurity, the people at Stella’s Circle continue to innovate so
community members can receive the kind of support that makes a real and
sustainable difference.
Through Mission and Service, your support helps strengthen Stella’s
Circle and the Hungry Heart Café, ensuring this community remains a
place of opportunity, dignity, and good food shared with care. It’s one
way to come together to help people build skills, find stability, and
move toward the futures they imagine for themselves, reflecting Christ’s
call to walk with one another in compassion and hope.
