Dear YKUC Friends:

If you'd like to feel great about your North of 60 home this week, take a look at the weather forecast for Mississauga, and then send a prayer our way. It's HOT. It is 35C not even accounting for humidity, and feels WAY hotter. I'm melting and wishing like anything I was getting on a plane this week, but alas, we boil on.

So many of you have reached out with kind thoughts and prayers and wishes for my parents, and it is so appreciated. My dad's recovery is going well, he's now in a rehab hospital and feeling much more like himself. Mom and I are getting into something of a routine, and I'm slowly figuring out the system of support and working towards a plan for the future. So many of you have looked after your parents and walked this road, and I thank you for all the wisdom you have shared.

I was supposed to be travelling this week to spend the next 6 weeks in Yellowknife. That won't be happening any time soon, and my parents' situation means I'll be working remotely for the next little while. I'm not sure what the summer holds, but I know for sure that I'll see you in person in September. I'm so bummed to be missing out on those long summer days, and I miss you all very much. Thank you for your flexibility and adaptability in having me as your minister.

I'm having fun making video sermons to send to you, and here's yesterday's. You have a choice to watch it in close-up format (viewed at YKUC) or "pulpit format" (live from Faith United in Hamilton.) Thanks to Lorne G for leading worship yesterday, and to Sean D for his technical mastery in bringing these services to life.

This Sunday, we're continuing on in the (abbreviated) Elijah cycle with the story of Elijah passing his mantle to his new servant, Elisha. I love this cycle of stories - sometimes we get all 6 weeks, this summer is only 3. There's something about summer worship that makes me want to preach on the Hebrew Bible, to tell stories that we don't know as well or engage with as often. Come along on this journey with me! I promise you'll learn something new.

This Sunday, we will also be celebrating the sacrament of Communion. Thank you to Karen W, our Sacraments Elder, for presiding. We'll celebrate using the liturgy from the 100th Anniversary service in Newfoundland a few weeks ago.

Finally: I'd love to see and catch up with you all while I'm down south. I enjoy the Wednesday night gatherings at the Manse so much, so this week, I'd like to invite you to my virtual Manse for some time together. My hope is to do this every second week or so until I'm back in town. This week will be purely social, but my goal is to incorporate a little spiritual practice/bible study/creativity/mindfulness time as we move forward. For those who want to say hi, please join this link at 5:30pm Mountain Time on Wednesday, June 25th:

Love to you all, and we'll see each other soon.

Alison
