Dear YKUC Friends:

Summer continues in Ontario, and while I am enjoying the heat and doing lots of swimming, I am missing the North and all of you. There is good news to report from my part of the country, which is that my dad has returned home from hospital and continues to recover well. I have moved back into my own home, and am starting to transition back to my regular life. The last six weeks have been a whirlwind of both chaos and learning. In my Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Group, we talk a lot about "widening the circle of care" - and as far as my mother is concerned, we have done this in a huge way since my father's accident. I have learned a lot about asking for help and receiving help, and I continue to be amazed and grateful for the astonishing outpouring of love and support our family has received during such a hard time.

Asking for and receiving help is the theme of our upcoming worship service on Sunday, July 27th. The Revised Common Lectionary takes us to Luke 11, which features Jesus teaching his disciples "how to pray" - using the prayer we have come to know as Our Lord's Prayer. We will unpack the prayer a little, and then spend some time immersed in it, hearing it in several different languages. Do you know the Lord's Prayer in a language other than English? Would you be willing to offer that prayer on Sunday? I am specifically looking for a volunteer who is comfortable speaking French, and all other languages are welcome, too!

With apologies for the short notice, I'm going to spend some time on Zoom tonight at 6:30pm Mountain Time. If you're around and would like to check in and catch up for a few minutes, please feel free to jump on this link:

Finally, I'm looking forward to seeing you all in person soon. It's looking like I will be able to spend a week with you in August, and I will confirm those dates very soon. I'll return for a proper visit in September, and we'll be able to return to the "normal" as we were beginning to experience it.

I hope you are all well. Please feel free to drop me a line and let me know how your summer is going!

Much love and many blessings,

Alison
