Dear YKUC Friends:
I feel I might get hunted down if I tell you that it's 13C and sunny in Mississauga today. Yes, really. My window is open as I type this, and it smells like spring.
BUT. We don't have a snow castle here, do we? No, we do not.
I'm excited to be returning to Yellowknife in a weeks' time! I'll be back in town on March 13th and back in the pulpit (in person) on March 15th. I'm bringing my son James with me, along with his buddy Jo. Along with playing in the snow castle, they're keen to do lots of winter adventures, especially ice fishing! So, I'm asking a favour. Does anyone in our congregation have access to an ice auger that they'd be willing to lend or rent? Or, is there anyone who'd be willing to share their favourite spots, or accompany two Grade 10 boys out on the lake? I'm also looking for a lead on a snowmobile to rent for a day or two -- any information you could share would be so helpful!
We continue our journey through Lent, and as it's Wednesday, I'll remind you that you are welcome for a virtual study group tonight at 7pm MT, as we continue our discussion of Anna Sale's Let's Talk About Hard Things. Tonight, we'll look at difficult conversation #2: Sex. Don't be shy! If this topic scares you to death, let's talk about why, and if you can't imagine a more fun discussion, join us for sure. I realize now that the book is somewhat difficult to track down, so it's more than okay to join the conversation without reading it. Check out one of Anna Sale's Death, Sex and Money podcasts if you want to know more about her.
I'm absolutely loving our nightly prayers. This is an easy way to connect with your prayer life during the 40 days of Lent, without much of a time commitment. At 8pm MT, sign on using the link below, and we'll pray as a group for about 10 minutes.
An opportunity for some reflective time is available on Saturday, March 7th in the Sanctuary with a Lenten Labyrinth in the Auditorium from 2-5pm. Over the years, I have come to love the practice of walking labyrinths. It's a chance to be quiet while contemplating a question, or reflecting on a journey, or just be present with God.
Sunday, March 8th is International Women's Day, and also the second Sunday of the month, which means it's a Word & Wonder Worship Service. W&W Services are intentionally inclusive to all ages. They don't have a formal "sermon" but rather shorter stories and interactive moments that engage our stories through our senses. This Sunday, we'll tell the story of Jesus and the Samaritan Woman at the Well. Please join us -- wiggles and fidgets are welcome!
Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 1st, as that is YKUC's turn to host the Ministerial's Lenten Lunch at Holy Trinity Anglican Church. We will be looking for volunteers to provide soup and sandwiches, and help serve and clean up. Look for sign-up sheets coming soon!
I can't wait to see you all soon!
Cheers,
Alison
