Dear YKUC Friends:
Last weekend was AMAZING! What an incredible 48 hours for our church family. We had a wonderful potluck celebration of the 100th anniversary, and the Pride parade was SO much fun! I'm so grateful to have shared these moments with you, even if it was the coldest Pride Parade I've ever been to! I'm going to post a few of the excellent photos on our facebook page. Also, check out Amazing Abby's pride moment (and plug for YKUC!) on Cabin Radio here:
This week, worship will be slightly abbreviated again in order to allow time for the Annual General Meeting of Yellowknife United Church. Please plan to stay for this important business of the congregation. Thank you to Dawn McInnes, Karen Wilford, and Rhovy Sobrepena for their roles in leading the service. There will be refreshments to keep you going through the meeting.
I'm back in Mississauga, and I'll share with you a request for prayers, as chaos has erupted in my family life (yes, again). Earlier this week, my dad had a fall and broke his femur. He's in hospital recovering from surgery to partially replace his hip, and will be laid up awhile until the fracture heals and he is back on his feet. Most of you know that my dad is the primary caregiver for my Mom, who has dementia. This means that I've moved back into my childhood home and am doing my best to care for Mom. (I'm even writing to you from my old bedroom!) Thankfully, our houses are around the corner from one another, and it's convenient to walk back and forth when we need to. It's been a wild week, but people are coming out of the woodwork to help. Derek, James, and Alex are pillars of support, and their church family (Erindale United Church) are a beacon of loving care. This is going to be a tough road, and I don't yet have a clear picture of how it's all going to play out, but I feel very lucky to have so many great people in our corner. Thank you all for keeping our family, and my parents, Marilyn and John Hurst, in your prayers.
That's it from me this week. I'll be back in touch when things are a little more organized. Much love to you all.
Alison
