Description:

Performs a variety of advanced zoning administration functions that may include one or more of the following: assisting in the administration of the work program involving the research, preparation and implementation of amendments to the Zoning Ordinance; reviewing complex plans and building permits for zoning compliance and assisting in the oversight and management of the zoning permit branch; and responding to complex zoning inquiries involving the research and preparation of compliance letters, use determinations, interpretations of the Zoning Ordinance and reports on appeals of zoning determinations. Attends meetings, makes presentations, conducts special studies, writes detailed reports, and interprets data relating to land use, transportation, public facilities and environmental planning. Performs related duties as required.

 

Minimum
Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a planning related field; plus four years of experience in a planning-related field, preferably in the specific area of assignment (e.g., zoning evaluation, zoning administration, zoning enforcement, public facility, environmental and/or land use planning). The years of experience should include a minimum of three years of experience in this area of assignment.

 

Preferred
Qualifications:

Experience: interpreting and applying zoning ordinance and zoning administration procedures; providing staff support to an elected/appointed board/authority/commission; conducting site, building and/or architectural plan review; and using Microsoft Word and Excel software. Must be able to conduct independent research and to communicate effectively, both in written and oral format. Master's degree in urban planning or a related field.

 

Selection
Procedure:

Evaluation of relevant education and experience. Personal or panel interview of top rated applicants, which may include written questions. Applicants may be asked to provide samples of work. Finalists may be interviewed by the Director, Zoning Administration Division.

 

Note:

Must be willing to participate in work assignments and meetings during the evening hours.
