ECOLOGY CENTER SEEKS A COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM DIRECTOR
ECOLOGY CENTER BACKGROUND
The Ecology Center’s mission is to inspire and build a sustainable, healthy, and just future for the East Bay, California, and beyond. The Ecology Center transforms the ideas of sustainability into everyday practice. We offer information you can act on, infrastructure you can count on, and leadership for lasting change. We are working toward a world of resilient communities, zero waste and toxics, equal access to healthy food, sustainable resource use, and a safe and stable climate.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Ecology Center’s Community Engagement programming centers on our public resource center and retail store. This is the heart of the organization, engaging the public on a wide range of issues through a multiplicity of modalities and platforms. In addition to the EcoStore, the resource center offers hotline information and referral services, a multimedia and seed interchange library, a broad spectrum of materials and educational resources and online services. The space is often used for classes, events, and workshops led by program staff, our events coordinator, and occasionally outside groups.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Community Engagement Program Director leads and supports the Ecology Center’s Community Engagement programming through the Ecology Center’s store and public resource center, engagement & education programs, and EcoHouse. The Community Engagement Program Director leads, develops, and oversees the organization’s Climate Action and Zero Waste education activities, plans and implements efforts to build and improve education and direct service programs, fosters and promotes retail sales, community partnerships, coalitions, and supports organizational visibility, institutional funding, and individual giving efforts. This position reports to the Executive Director.
