Dear Imran Ali,

A lot has happened since the Good Country opened its doors to citizens just one month ago.

  • We’ve been working hard to get our enrollment systems up and running smoothly, and now have several thousand citizens from over 115 countries.
  • We’ve been telling the Good Country story to the media, like this piece we recently shared with the BBC.
  • We’ve been connecting those of you who have expressed interest in helping us spread the word, and have now established citizen networks in five regions and seven countries.

Now that we’ve laid the Good Country’s foundation, we’re ready to pick up speed.

So, we have a challenge for all of you:

This weekend, try to enroll just one citizen.

Sit down with a friend, a family member, a work colleague, or even a stranger, and walk through each step of becoming a citizen with them until they submit their application. The important thing is to sit with this person all the way through to the end. It should only take five minutes and if everyone takes part, we can double our population this week.

We’re already grateful to citizens like Luli Borbón (Costa Rica), Vincentius Roue Kenswil (Suriname), and Andrew Petrisin (United States) for helping us spread the word over Twitter, the radio, and Medium.

Please write to ambas...@good.country for further information, and especially if you’d like to help us spread the word and connect with other citizens in your country or region.

After completing this challenge, here’s what you can expect over the next few months:

From October 2018 – December 2018: our focus is to enroll as many citizens as we can. We’ll be working to raise awareness of the Good Country through media and events, and counting on all of you to help us spread the word. Citizen enrollment will pause at the end of the year.

From January 2019 – March 2019: citizens will get access to a new area of our website and go through our first policy development cycle – selecting a global challenge we want to tackle and developing an intervention that will encourage other countries to work together in addressing that issue.

From April 2019 – June 2019: we’ll go through our second policy development cycle to select a different global challenge and a different intervention we want to carry out.

From July 2019 – August 2019: we’ll take what we learned from the first two policy development cycles to improve our systems and processes and make sure we all feel that the Good Country is on the right track.

In September 2019: the Good Country will officially launch with the inaugural Good Country Day event, and will re-open for active citizen enrollment.

As always, do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or concerns at civils...@good.country.

Madeline and Simon
