Thank you.The bad news is that the Mercury News obits are shockingly expensive. It's not my business to advise, but if you'd like to get word out, I'd instead recommend the Stanford Daily, if they do obits. Or Palo Alto Daily or Palo Alto Online/Weekly. (I realize there isn't much time.)I'm guessing the Merc is in the $200-500 range and the family's money is far better spent elsewhere. I have no leverage there at all, regretfully, because it all handled through our ad department. If you hear from the Stanford Daily editor, a lovely guy named Devin, you might ask that he include the tentative date of the funeral, so the Stanford community knows.I said a prayer for him at church this morning. I'm so so sorry.Lisa KriegerSJMN

Subject: Re: final Fwd: please double check the mercury news draftHi Lisa, I saw your article on mercury news yesterday.Thank you so much for writing this to help the family. I have another question, if the family wants to put a mortuary on mercury news, how much would that cost? We are in the process of arranging his funeral now. The tentative date is next Sat Feb 27th. Thanks a lot again! Thank you so much for telling me.
Question: Could the family still use financial support in the next two or three days? I assume it will be expensive to fly him home.
Might you offer a quote about the loss? We are quickly trying to re-tool to story so it is still useful..Regards,

It was held on Wednesday (for Thursday publication) due to use-of-last-name problem, then held on Thursday (for Friday publication) due to lack of editors/plane crash coverage.
I think we’re aiming for editing today for publication on Saturday BUT I was just told by Stanford that Redwood City CHP has completed its investigation and will release findings today or Monday. We should really get their findings rather than say “the accident is under investigation” because the investigation is closed. I have placed a call to the Sergeant at Redwood City CHP and am awaiting his return call!!
Thanks again

Hi Lisa,
How's it going?
I just scanned through Mercury News and couldn't find your article. Do you have any idea when will it be out?
Thank you very much for your help again!

Yes, since we held it yesterday (for today’s paper), it is now likely to be edited today for tomorrow’s paper, now that we have your OK!
Fingers crossed it will run tomorrow!

Me again - can you explain an application of "absorption of pharmaceuticals" - is it medical, i.e. absorption by the body of pharmaceuticals? or...?
Let me know as soon as there is a last name to be used, so we can attribute the material accurately and publish the piece.
Thank you!

Subject: final Fwd: please double check the mercury news draftHi Lisa, We just made another minor change and here is the final version. Forwarded below is the accurate information about the projects Yichao was working on (Yichao was working on adsorption of pharmaceuticals on reverse osmosis membranes, among other things.). Thanks again! Dan
A small pine tree was planted on the UC Berkeley campus last spring, behind Hildebrand Hall. It has grown 3 feet or so but is still not very big. The only people who notice it, as they pass by, are those who know that half of the ashes of a chemistry doctoral student from China named Wang Jie are buried beneath the tree.
The other half of Wang's ashes are in Shanghai, where his parents live. They are both teachers, members of the Chinese middle class, and their son's future was the center of their aspirations. He died at 24, in the intensive care unit at Oakland's Highland Hospital, 15 days after an Albany man fleeing police blew through a red light and smashed into his car.
