Greetings,

The phrase "third-world development" is loaded.

Now that the Iron Curtain is down, which are the "first" and "second" worlds, and what exactly do we mean by development?

Given a definition, is development working? Are underdeveloped nations getting better?

Unsurprisingly, experts disagree, from Dead Aid to It's Getting Better All the Time.

With David Ellerman, let's discuss:

  • Where are we in the arc of development?
  • What seems to work? How can we tell?
  • What doesn't work? What are the symptoms?

As always, an IRC chat will be available during the call at #yitan.
