After a few weeks of strange winter weather, we're finally about to see the official start to spring.
Officially, spring starts this weekend on March 20, 2010. I'm personally glad to see the weather warming up. I like the snow, but I think I like not having to wear winter jackets when I go outside and to see green grass and trees rather than bare, brown grass. I have some vegetable seeds in the pellets (waiting for them to sprout so I can plant them outside). Granted there's so much more to do outside with warmer weather.
Here in Atlanta, the changing of season from winter to spring means one other thing. Allergy season is around the corner. Although we are the largest city in the south east we do have quite a bit of trees so when spring comes around and the trees start budding leaves and the grass/shrubs start coming back to life we get a more than healthy dose of pollen.
The first time I noticed the pollen was when I first came to Atlanta, and I'd see otherwise black cars covered in fine green dust and when it rains the yellow-green pollen will wash to the sidewalks coloring it a yucky green. I wasn't affected by allergy when I first came to Atlanta... but I think I'm a little affected by it now with the sneezing. Nothing the antihistamines can't fix.
Thankfully, high pollen season (the high 1,000 counts) lasts only but a few weeks, and by end of May should see better opportunities to bike/walk/run in the park.
