Group Leaders, scouters, rover crew members , leaders in Girl guides , scouting Boat owners & parent helpers
Yes, we are at the pointy end of another very successful Sailing / water activity season. Some groups have now stored their equipment away until October 1st, which I believe will be the start of our next “ summer “ season of water activities and sailing. Trying to get qualifications at the start of the season is usually difficult therefore we have scheduled 2 training / accreditation courses now that the season has concluded & also before the weather becomes uncomfortable.
Saturday April 15th / Sunday April 16th is a scout power boat course run at G&SWAC for 8 candidates , currently 3 have applied to do the course. It is the weekend after Easter which we thought would be achievable as some leaders do go away with their families at Easter. ( “ Please remember a scout power boat course is required to be passed before you can use a Power boat at a scout activity “ )
Saturday May 6th is a Scout VHF Marine radio course, a 1 day course also at G&SWAC, now a compulsory requirement for those leaders wanting to become scouting adventurous Activity Guides ( any person using a VHF Marine Radio MUST hold a VHF License, a once only lifetime license fee is part of the $ 140 fee ) to date everybody doing the course has passed ( The written examination paper is sent to & corrected / passed in Tasmania ) . Sunday, May 7th, Philip is running an additional 1 day VHF radio course for yachting club / rowing / kayaking club members, those not involved in scouting , however if the Saturday course does not suit scouting people, a seat on the Sunday course could be found. 12 seats on both days are available.
All leaders / crew members etc are encouraged to book in & do this course. For those travelling long distances, accomodation can be made available at G&SWAC. please let myself or Barbara (
bna...@gmail.com )know before hand.
Please pass on this information to those members within your groups / crew’s / organisation etc. Training / qualifications are an important requirement for all leaders as we continue to improve & provide quality programs to our youth members.
NB / Some Rover / Venturer crews are planning extended sailing journeys in the coming months, achieving their VHF marine radio VHF Qualification prior to this, will be a box tick off on the risk assessment they submit. VHF Marine licensing for communication is also essential for remote water based camping, extended sailing journeys etc , Bunga Arm being a good example. Please forward this email to those not included as some addresses are not in my data base.
Bookings are essential.
As always. YIS.
Thanking You
