Dear YETI volunteers,

Attached is a standing request to YETI on behalf of the Biodiversity Asia 2012 organisers to help co-organise the 2nd Asia regional conference of the Society for Conservation Biology from 8-10 August 2012 at the JRD Tata Auditorium, IISc campus, Bangalore.

Gladwin Joseph, Director, ATREE (one of the main organising host) was not very sure who to address the email to, and so was sent to Madhura and me to be sent to YETI. They are expecting a reply from YETI as soon as possible.

Amit

Dear Amit and Madhura,

ATREE, IISc and other local organizations are hosting the 2nd Asia regional conference of the Society for Conservation Biology from 8-10 August 2012 at the JRD Tata Auditorium, IISc Campus., Bengaluru. The international conference is being organized in India to highlight the urgency of biodiversity conservation in Asia ahead of the 11th Conference of the Parties (CoP) of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) to be held in India in October 2012. Biodiversity Asia 2012 will bring together researchers, policy makers, managers, students, teachers, NGOs, activists, and others working towards the conservation of Asia's biodiversity. We expect 400-500 people to participate representing at least 30 countries from around Asia and the world.

We would like to invite YETI to be a co-organizer of the conference. As a co-organizer we would request you to nominate one person from YETI to work with us in planning and preparing for the conference as part of the local organizing committee. We anticipate that the local organizing committee will meet about once a month, though the frequency of meetings is likely to increase as the date of the conference approaches. In addition to your assistance in planning and preparing for the conference, do also let us know if YETI may be able to provide other assistance in supporting the conference. We look forward to discussing this further with you in person or over the phone.

As a coorganizer, we also request that you send us your logo for the conference website, and to include in conference-related communication.

We enclose a brief write-up on the conference for your information.

Please do let us know if you have any questions.

With warm regards,

Ankila Hiremath & Gladwin Joseph (Co-convenors)
N.A. Aravind (Coordinator)
