Hi All,
First of all we would like to say "thank you!" to all group members for posing interesting questions and bringing issues to our attention. This really helps us a lot to continue provide a good product to all YesCart users.
YesCart is a complex project and challenges may be encountered in various places. We receive numerous queries from YesCart users via various sources: google groups, direct emails to support and questions from existing YesCart users that have used our professional services stream. All relevant information is then distilled into documentation providing detailed steps with tips & tricks sections.
Sometimes however we receive queries for things already answered either in documentation, google groups posts or video workshops.
As much as we like to help out it is quite unfulfilling to have our support team search for links to documentation for simple questions and most upsetting is that these questions do not add any value to community knowledge base.
This is why we decided to set some rules to guide our Google group members to use these facilities in the most efficient and beneficial way:
1. DRY principle (Don't repeat yourself)
Ensure that the question that you are asking does not already have an answer in the documentation ( here is link to
3.x.x ). There is also a search box there, you are very welcome to use it to speed up your research. The chances are that documentation already explains some challenges in much more detail as well as potential solution(s). If nothing found in the doc's, please browse the topics in this group, maybe you will find the answers there?
If you still cannot find the answers ...
2. Select correct topic title
When topic titles are named "this does not work" or "unable to access ..." it is very difficult to understand the nature of the query and it does give bad impression of YesCart to casual visitors. Topics are very important - remember that the answers given are not just for you but for all other readers that will be seeking this information in the future.
3. Do some analysis
YesCart is open source initiative and if you are here - you are part of the YesCart community. As a community it is much better to solve problems together. You would not just dump a bunch of work onto someone else and leave for a coffee break, right? So when posting a topic please try to do some analysis, i.e. investigate the nature of the problem, try to see if there is anything interesting in logs (maybe the hint to solution is already there?). Logs may also point you to interesting places in code where you could put debug break points and do some further analysis. Then include all these details in the question, so that we can get help much quicker.
4. Keep to the point
There could be many things at play, however you should be able to extract only information relevant to your problem before adding it to the post. Full Tomcat log dumps spreading over pages and pages do not help anyone. If you do need to add large supporting material to the post - add only small extracts of important parts inside the post, the rest can go to the attachments. This will make the post more readable and easier for the future readers.
5. Be polite
All members must be considerate to each other and respect time and effort others put into answering your queries. We believe that following rules 2,3 and 4 and use of "please" and "thank you" is very important.
Kind regards,
YC team
