Dear friends,
As many of you will surely be aware, this Sunday 22nd April is
Earth Day. For most of us, as ecovillagers and friends of the
earth, we try and make every day such a day - but this is a chance
to raise awareness of how you and your community are caring for
our planet.
If you haven't got anything planned yet, there's still time! The
events working group have shared some ideas to get your creative
juices flowing:
- Pick up sprouts of native trees, plant them in pots,
classify them. Sell them at a symbolic price or donation so
people are responsible for them and take care of them to plant
elsewhere. The money raised could go to a local NGO, a
humanitarian or environmental project.
- Organising a ceremony to honor the 4 elements: a temazcal,
drumming circle...
- Invite a representative from a local seed bank to give a talk about the topic
- If you have something planned, contact local journalists and
invite them down to cover the event
- If there is already an event happening in your local area,
why not participate as GEN Europe? You can download flyers and
brochures from our website, bring a hand-made stand, and spread
the word about your community and about the European ecovillage
movement.
(These are also great ideas to help you think about what you
might do for the European Day of Sustainable Communities on
September 22nd!)
