Dear friends,
As you will know, along with GEN we at GEN Europe have been
attending the COP climate summit over the last few years, raising
the profile of ecovillages, highlighting ecovillage solutions, and
seeking new partnerships that will strengthen our network. This
year we will be attending COP24 in Katowice and we have some
exhibition space, which we would like to use to showcase how our
member ecovillages, through your grassroots action, are already
contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development
Goals (SGSs.)
Therefore, I am seeking very high quality/resolution photographs
from around the network that we can use to illustrate how
ecovillages are contributing to the SDGs - for example, a
beautiful photograph of a strawbale house with solar panels
(Sieben Linden? Hallingelille?); an example of a restored
ecosystem; inclusive education in progress; or a hand-made wind
turbine... For inspiration, you can see the full list of all 17
SGSs here.
They should be very high resolution, as they would be
blown up to A2 poster size.
If you'd like your ecovillage to be showcased at COP24, please do
send your best photos by the end of next week! All photos will be
credited appropriately and ecovillages will be named. Together we
can help show international institutions and decisionmakers that
we have the solutions, and we are ready to collaborate in creating
a new paradigm here and now.
Warmest regards and with thanks for your collaboration,
Fran

Hello Fran,The previous email is the second picture I sent you. The first was of the mud brick bus stop that was constructed in our village. The first email was too big and is blocked and being held for inspection. If it doesn't get to you I can make it smaller. But you did ask for high resolution pictures so I left it untouched.Let me know.Lois Cemal

This mudbrick bus stop is a result of a training and awareness raising exercise for architectural students from a local university. Ismail Cemal, a founding member of our eco village membership with GEN (he has attended 3 AGM meetings) volunteered as the supervisor and consultant. The bus stop has solar panels for night time lighting inside, open window spaces to view traffic and a bench inside for sitting. The students participated in stomping the mud, making bricks and the construction of the stone base and mudbrick walls. The roof was also made traditionally, with juniper beams and bamboo. Being an indigenous village, the local municipality contributed with supplying materials and, along with local guesthouses, housed and fed the volunteers. A second mudbrick bus stop was built a month later, entirely by the municipality, reinforcing the skills and knowledge of working with adobe among local youth.Lois Cemal, Buyukkonuk Eco-village, north Cyprus.Get Outlook for iOS
