International airport now at Mathura

After scrapping the previous Mayawati government’s decision to set-up
an international airport at Jewar in Greater Noida, the SP government
has decided to build it at Mathura, about 120 kilometre from Delhi.
According to sources here, the district administration in Mathura has
identified the land on which the airport could come up. Sources said a
proposal on this has been sent to the government for consideration.
Soon after assuming office, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav had grounded
the ambitious Jewar airport proposal mooted by the Mayawati regime.
The new regime had asked the civil aviation department to identify
land for the airport in Agra or Mathura.
The proposal for the new airport was mooted to ease congestion at the
Indira Gandhi International Airport at Delhi. The Union government was
however opposed to idea of setting up the new airport at Jewar, which
was very close to
Delhi.
Sources said that the Akhilesh regime felt that an airport at Mathura
would be far more suitable for the large number of foreigners flocking
the Taj city of Agra as well as the religious town of Mathura. The
proposal could get full support of the union civil aviation minister
Ajit Singh also as his son Jayant Chaudhary was member of Lok Sabha
from Mathura.
The proposal for a second airport close to Delhi has been there for
quite some time now. It was first mooted in 2001 but the real push
came only when Mayawati became the chief minister in 2007. She tried
hard to convince the centre to clear the project but it remained in
limbo.
Given the cordial relations between the SP regime and the Congress-led
UPA government, the officials now feel that the proposal will finally
get the necessary clearance. The airport could also give a major
fillip to the tourism sector in the state, they say.

लखनऊ [जागरण ब्यूरो]। मायावती सरकार के कार्यकाल में गौतम बुद्ध नगर के जेवर इलाके में प्रस्तावित अंतरराष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डा परियोजना को निरस्त किये जाने के बाद अब इस परियोजना को मथुरा में परवान चढ़ाने की कोशिशें शुरू हो गई हैं। अंतरराष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डा परियोजना के लिए मथुरा में 1500 एकड़ जमीन चिह्नित की गई है।
यह जानकारी अवस्थापना एवं औद्योगिक विकास आयुक्त [आइआइडीसी] अनिल कुमार गुप्ता ने दी। मथुरा के जिलाधिकारी से प्राप्त जानकारी के आधार पर उन्होंने बताया कि हवाई अड्डा परियोजना के लिए चिह्नित की गई यह भूमि मथुरा-आगरा रोड पर है। जिस जगह जमीन चिह्नित की गई है, वह फसली क्षेत्र नहीं है। शासन ने इस संबंध में जिलाधिकारी से लिखित प्रस्ताव मांगा है।
गौरतलब है कि जेवर में प्रस्तावित अंतरराष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डा परियोजना सात साल से खटाई में पड़ी थी। प्रस्तावित परियोजना नई दिल्ली स्थित इंदिरा गांधी अंतरराष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डे के 150 किमी के दायरे में होने के कारण केंद्र सरकार की ओर से इसे मंजूरी नहीं दी जा रही थी। लिहाजा राज्य सरकार ने बीते दिनों जेवर में अंतरराष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डा बनाने की परियोजना रद कर दी थी। शासन ने अंतरराष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डा परियोजना के लिए आगरा और मथुरा के जिलाधिकारियों से जमीन चिह्नित करने के लिए कहा था। इस पर मथुरा के जिलाधिकारी ने परियोजना के लिए जमीन चिह्नित किये जाने की सूचना शासन को दी है।
