YEIDA cuts Metro route, will run parallel to e-way

GREATER NOIDA: The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has once again changed the route of the proposed Metro alignment between Greater Noida and YEIDA area. After a recent meeting held with DMRC officials last week, a new 20-km proposal has been finalized between the zero point of the Yamuna expressway in Greater Noida and YEIDA's Sector 20.

The Metro is proposed to run parallel to the Yamuna expressway. A techno-economic feasibility report (TEFR) for the proposed track is expected to be ready by December.

According to officials, in June this year, the former CEO of YEIDA had proposed a 38-km Metro track to be a link between Knowledge Park II in Greater Noida and Jewar. The DMRC had then worked out a proposed alignment along a 130-metre-wide road from Greater Noida and Jewar along the Yamuna e-way. However, after a meeting held last week YEIDA officials have now proposed that DMRC work on a fresh route along the green belt of the Yamuna expressway. The Metro track will run on the road level, officials said.

Officials further said that the new TEFR should take about three months to prepare. "The report will study in detail the proposed Metro route alignment, the current status of the route, number of stations required and the estimated cost of putting the track in place," said a senior YEIDA official.

"Once the TEFR is in place, it will seek the approval of the YEIDA Board before it can be taken further," the official said. "The TEFR will then be followed by a detailed project report (DPR), which should be ready in about five months' time in the New Year," the official said. "Once we have the approval of the state government on the alignment, work will proceed further on the track," he said.

YEIDA officials said that once the two were in place, they would work out the schedule of putting the Metro track in place in a time-bound manner. If all goes according to plan, the Greater Noida-YEIDA Metro line could be commissioned by 2019, officials said.

This is the third time the Metro route between Greater Noida and YEIDA is being revised. In June this year, YEIDA had inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a TEFR study to be carried out followed by a DPR for the proposed track with DMRC. According to the proposal, a 38-km proposed Metro track was to be a link between Knowledge Park II in Greater Noida and Jewar area, which falls in the YEIDA area.

In February last year, YEIDA had proposed a 20.6-km Metro rail route between Greater Noida and Dankaur. The proposed track was expected to run along the Yamuna expressway between Pari Chowk in Greater Noida to Sector 22 in the YEIDA area.
