An overview of some improvements I made to our Rails app in the past year, including:
Unicorn, asset syncing, direct file uploads, and Postgres full text search.

Hope you find it helpful :-)

Nathan.

Great article!

We also battled Unicorn for awhile, but we seem to have it all figured out out (although our stuff is all hosted locally @ AMA, no Unicorn killing). Are you guys doing 0 downtime deploys w/ Unicorn?

And congrats on Ruby 2.0! Last time I chatted with you guys you were almost there. Ruby 2.1(preview) is looking interesting (http://rkh.im/ruby-2.1), let's hope the upgrade path is easy.

We are using a Heroku lab called "preboot" for 0 downtime deploys.

Our deployment script will turn off preboot if we're doing database migrations though.

Nathan.
