to Year 12 English literature
Hi there,
The following is a text we'll be examining during tomorrow's class:
Norwegian Wood is totally about suffering. All of the people in the
book feel bad because of love. The book starts with someone dying.
That’s a really important bit because you could say it shows what’s
going to happen to most of the people in the book once they’ve fallen
in love. They all feel bad for different reasons though. Hatsumi kills
herself because Nagasawa is sleeping around. Naoko kills herself
because she can’t seem to stop thinking horrible thoughts, which after
all is something that happens to a lot of people, so that helps you to
understand what she does. Midori is different though. He ends up with
her and this at least is a sort of happy ending in love without too
much suffering. That’s the most important thing in the book and it’s a
sort of conclusion.
Enjoy,
Mr Marsden
