to YDA Labor Caucus
National Committee Members will soon vote on the site selection issue
- Chicago or Kansas City

I believe YDA should have open and democratic debate about issues like
this. Please engage with your National Committee Members in your State
and ask them to weigh the pros and cons of each proposal. Member input
is key.

What are you looking for in a convention site? Let leaders in KC and
Chicago know and leaders in your state YDs. Let me know as one of your
National Committee Members.

Here are a couple facebook messages offered in support of KC. I will
forward out support info for Chicago upon reciept.

There are so many reasons to pick Kansas City. The unions here may be
smaller, but that just makes it easier to have 1-on-1 discussions with
the people higher up and they remember you. One of my best resources
is being able to call up the Plummer and Pipefitter UA441 Rep and get
advice from him at a moments notice. I never have to go through a
secretary or automated phone. In Kansas City we will be able to bring
in more Reps and they can tell the progress they have been making in
both states...not just 1, in Kansas City you get to hear the contrast
between the KS side and the MO side.
Point 2...Kansas City is more affordable for most people, more people
will be able to afford to come that otherwise wouldn't participate in
the Convention.
Point 3... I believe YDA was born in Kansas City, if I'm not mistaken.

When the DNC chose Denver for the 2008 convention, it represented a
dedication to winning historically red states as part of the 50 state
strategy. By choosing Kansas City, the Young Democrats of America can
choose to fight for states that have not been historic Democratic
strongholds. Located in the heart of America, Kansas City is an
affordable and convenient destination for Young Democrats around the
country. The hotel is located in the vibrant urban core of the city,
providing easy access to everything the city has to offer. An
energetic city forged by a rich history, Kansas City offers unexpected
discoveries every day. Part of the city’s charm lies in its beauty,
with impressive boulevards, spacious parks and exquisite fountains.
But it’s the unique adventures that will make our convention special—
eclectic cuisine, swinging jazz, one-of-a-kind museums and fantastic
shopping.
