Union member and journalist Charles Pugh, Detroit’s first openly gay Council Candidate to Speak at Labor Caucus
The name of Charles Pugh is most commonly familiarized by prestigious positions on both television and radio; however, the truth of the man behind the name is much more defining. Mr. Pugh is an advocate for not only the city he hails from but for the citizens that occupy it. The city of DETROIT! Detroit is not just another name of a city for this Murray Wright graduate, Detroit is the place that Charles Pugh calls home. Born and raised in Detroit, he is a true believer in giving back to the community by donating his time, money and efforts to children who the system has turned their backs on. As a mentor and teacher, Mr. Pugh believes that “Knowledge is NOT power, until you use it.” This is the sentiment that Charles Pugh passes along to citizens and young people all over the city of Detroit as he speaks to them on the street or at public venues. Charles Pugh’s effort, vitality and passion has not gone unnoticed, receiving endorsements towards his vision from prestigious organizations such as the Detroit Federation of Teachers, both the Detroit Police officers and Firefighters Associations, the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce and many more. As a former member of AFTRA, Charles understands the importance of unions. As a gay journalist AFTRA protected his rights and allowed him job protection. Mr. Pugh’s vision is to revitalize not just the scenery, but the citizens of Detroit.
