I. In The News: A Living Wage as Economic Stimulus

by Joel Wendland

"To the little fanfare, the federal minimum wage rose to $7.25 per hour July 24th. It was the third scheduled raise in minimum wage since 2007. A higher minimum wage is the best kind of economic stimulus for working families, say workers' rights advocates and even some business owners. But, they add, as it stands it has a long way to go to be high enough for working families to live on."

For the full story check out the Political Affairs site.

Discussion Questions:

1. Did you or anyone you know get a raise from the latest hike in the minimum wage?

2. Do you think the hiking in the minimum wage was high enough? What would be a liveabel wage where you live?

3. How far do you think raising the minimum wage and passing EFCA would go to help restart our economy?

4. Are there other measures that need to be taken to help stimulate the economy and creates more jobs?

II. Mass Action: National Call-in Day for Health Care, TODAY

"While Congress is on recess in August, 400,000 Americans will lose their health care coverage, according to the Center for American Progress...it's time for Congress to hear the voices of America's Workers!" Call 1-877-264-4226 and tell your representative in the U.S. House to support the House Health Care reform Bill H.R. 3200. You can also fax or email your representative the same message"
