IN THE NEWS: On Cabinet Picks, Obama Savvier than Progressive Critics
By Randy Shaw‚
Nov. 24‚ 2008
As Barack Obama's Cabinet fills with
Clinton Administration veterans,
some are raising concerns why no "movement progressive" has been
selected. Hillary Clinton's appointment as
Secretary of State
galvanized fears that Obama's cabinet is unduly "centrist," ... While
floating such names satisfies the media's desire to define Obama as
moving to "the center," they do not mean that our new President is
abandoning his commitment to "change." In fact, Obama's appointments
primarily show that he understands better than his critics the
underlying political dynamics involved with implementing progressive
change.
For the rest of the story please go to:

Discussion Questions:
1) Do you agree with those who worry
that Obama is moving too much towards the "center?" Why or Why Not?
2) What are your own thoughts on his
recent Cabinet appointments?
3) Why do you think that Obama has not
appointed more "movement progressives?"

take to ensure people who have lost their jobs do not lose their
healthcare and give people a voice in fighting corporate greed.
Send a letter

CONGRATULATIONS TO WORKERS AT REPUBLIC
WINDOWS!
Workers at Republic Windows & Doors
won their struggle for
justice after 6 days of sitting in and
occupying their
plant. Their struggle galvanized Jobs with Justice groups and a
wide cross section of allies, who provided material support and
turned out for numerous demonstrations all week, including more
than 600 people at a Wednesday afternoon rally at Bank of
America downtown Chicago, who chanted "You got bailed out, we got sold
out!" as they surrounded the Bank of America building. They even found
support in the President elect Obama, who stood firmly on the side of
workers during the sit in!
We congratulate the workers on their courage and their VICTORY!
"A victory for one is a victory for all!"
