I. In The News: Stimulus bill a
must, but only the beginning
By John Wojick
Although the labor movement is cheering the passage of
the president's stimulus bill, leaders of unions and organizations
allied with them are pointing out that the bill, itself, is far from
perfect and that much more will have to be done over a period of time
to rescue the tanking economy.

website.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
1. Do you feel the passage of the stimulus bill was a
victory for Obama? What would the impact have been on the Obama
Administration if the stimulus bill did not pass?
2. Why do you think the right wing came out so strong
against the stimulus bill? How do you feel about their proposed cuts
that were included in the bill?
3. Do you think Obama will have to pass another stimulus
bill to address the cuts that were made and any further deepending of
the economic crisis?
II. Mass Action: Sign the
National Day Laborer Organizing Network's petition to get Congress to
investigate Arizona civil rights abuses
In Maricopa Count, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been
terrorizing communities for years, engaging in police brutality, forced
family separation, racial profiling, slow emergency response times,
unjustified arrests, inmate abuses and more. His latest action, forcing
more than 200 undocumented immigratns to march through the streets in
chains to a tent city surrounded by an electric fence, is just the
latest outrage against human rights.
We can't stand by and let these abuses continue. House
Judiciary Committee Chair John Conyers has asked that Attorney General
Eric Holder and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano open
investigations into Arpaio's actions. Please sign the petition
to show your solidary against civil rights abuses and to bring this
Sheriff to justice!

IV. Local Club Showcase:
Organizing in Fayetteville, AR
The YCL club in Fayetteville, Arkansas has been holding
monthly study group sessions using the YCL's Left Wing Communism: An
Infantile Disorder's study guide and other educational materials. The
club has met a lot of new through the study group and has recruited new
people to the YCL. The club isn't just all study, either. The club is
active in local struggles around immigrant rights and helped to defeat
an anti-immigrant bill in Arkansas.
