DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1. Do you think Obama's speech signal's a change in US foreign policy in the Middle East in general and with Iran and Afghanistan in particular?

2. What do you make of Obama's stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict? Do you think Obama will be able to work with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end the expansion and construction of Israeli settlements?

3. What policies and actions do you think Obama can take to address the "sources of tensions" that he outlined in his speech such as democracy, employment and economic development?

III. Mass Action: Sign the online petition to "Reduce the Rate" on student loans

The Rainbow PUSH Coalition has started an online petition to show support for making higher education affordable for everyone. Their demands are for student loan interest rates to be reduced to 1%, a 18 month grace period before loan repayments begin for college graduates, stop schools from being penalized for student loan defaults, and increase Pell Grants to cover the full costs of tuition for a 4-year public university.

Sign their petition and get more information on the movement to "Reduce the Rate".

Kierra Johnson, the Executive Director of Choice USA, wrote a moving call to action for young men and women to carry on the struggle for reproductive justice after the assassination of Dr. Tiller. You can read her full comments on the Choice USA blog.
