Hello Everybody,

time to talk about IGF preparation, the YCIG is organizing directly or indirectly some workshops and and we will have for first time a Dynamic coalition meeting (important to discuss about the coalition issues and we need to draft an agenda for that), your presence is really important and for those who cannot attend IGF Vilnius, there will be remote participation channels, @Marilia can give some tips about.
it will be great if we can find time for informal meeting during IGF to know each other.

Please let me know if you are going to attend IGF Vilnius and share with us the workshops that you are organizing or participating as speaker and to present them. it will be great to list interesting workshops worthy to attend and coordinating attendance.

Social media: I think Tim can give us some advices about live reporting and using social media to cover IGF workshops and main sessions. Please share your twitter id so we can follow you and also your blog :)

I also advice joining the Diplo Ning network, there are many IG folks there and I will try to post some info in youth group and also to connect with peers. http://www.diplointernetgovernance.org/

For workshops schedule:
*#70Policy, governance, and participation: Harnessing all aspects of the net for youth activism
Day 1, 9:00-11:00
*Dynamic Coalition meeting YCIG Day 2, 14:15-16:15
*#69 Internet for youth - beyond safety issues
Day4, 9:00-11:00
Day4, 11:30-13:30

Hey All

Really looking forward to meeting many of you again/for the first time at the Dynamic Coalition Meeting and in other sessions.

I'll mainly be focussing on 'Social Reporting' out at the IGF - trying to see how we can use different social media tools to create more informal content about Internet governance, and to create informal opportunities for people outside the event to be involved to complement remote participation etc. Would love your input and ideas on that....

If you are going to be at IGF:
It would be great if you could be part of the Social Reporting team. All that you need to do is think about:
  • Using Twitter to highlight interesting ideas and themes in sessions;
  • Writing up sessions with short blog reflections on your own blog or the DiploInternetGovernance.org community blogs;
  • Creating short video interviews with delegates (I should have some camera's that can be borrowed)
There's a 'Social Reporters Handbook' and there will be an open training for anyone who wants to take part on Monday 13th.

Get the handbook here (and take a look of the check-list of things to try before getting to Vilnius):

If you're not able to make it to Vilnius
You can still be involved in the social reporting.

Keep an eye on http://igf2010.diplointernetgovernance.org/ during the IGF week where I'll try and keep a list of all the people who are social reporting sessions - and where, if people use hash-tags (http://www.diplointernetgovernance.org/profiles/blogs/hashtagging-igf-2010) in their messages about sessions, you should be able to follow and join in on the live discussions.

And if you've got questions you want to see asked, or issues you want some of the social reporting team to follow and report back on - let me know and I'll see what can be arranged...

All the best

Tim

Hey everyone,

yes, i have the great pleasure to be in Vilnius!
There will be a youth delegation consisting of three people representing the European Youth Forum (YFJ), kindly supported by the Council of Europe.
I have the chance to be one of them :-)

Currently, i am digging through the programme, bulding a list of the relevant sessions/workshops for youth, therefore i am glad for the special hints in your previous email.
I quickly set up an ietherpad for potential workshops for youth including Rafiks selection: http://www.ietherpad.com/dtTM5j0tnA
This is not exhaustive, and please feel free to add and comment where you wish [even all at the same time, the bless of collaborative online working ;-)]

The notification for the participation in the conference came quite spontenously, thus, in case you know a workshop where they appreciate youth
perspective and input, we are also up to serve as a panelist/resource person, etc.

I am curiously looking forward to meet everyone of you who is attending the meeting in person :-)

Have a nice day,
Best, Nadine

Hello everybody

If you won´t be in Vilnius for the IGF, it does not mean that you cannot take part in discussions. Channels for remote participation will be available to all those who want to follow the meetings and participate.

Remote participants can connect individually or join an IGF hub, if one will be organized in your home city. The complete list of IGF hubs is available here: http://www.intgovforum.org/cms/remote-participation

It will be possible to follow the videocast/audiocast of all IGF sessions and to send questions to the panelists. The official platform used for remote participation will be Webex. The links to join each session (or each “webex room”) will be available in IGF website prior to the meeting.

We are also encouraging video questions from remote participants. If you are interested to make a question, the best option would be to let us know in advance, so we can test your connection/bandwidth capacity prior to the session.

Other than that, I reinforce the invitation made by Tim for everybody to join social reporting and reverberate youth voices at the IGF.

Best wishes,

Marília

Hi  Lucinda,

thank you for sharing information about this initiative and it will be nice to meet those young people who are probably attending their first IGF.
I saw in the statement that they share some ideas with the coalition about youth involvement and participation :)
I think that this IGF will be intensively "social reported" and it will definitely enhance discussion and cooperation between all IGF participants.

Regards

Rafik

Hello everyone!

Childnet is coming to the IGF with eight young people.  We plan to be present in 7 workshops and two main sessions.  I have attached our draft timetable for information (although this is subject to potential change).

We have also been working closely with the young people to produce a statement of beliefs which they will be campaigning on at the IGF.  This was just finalised in the last half hour, and I'm pleased to attach it to this email for your information.

In terms of social reporting, our young people all have radiowaves accounts and will be using them to blog and highlight interesting ideas and themes in the sessions they attend as well as their reflections and hopefully creating short video interviews (as in Tim's email) and we would be happy to discuss further how these could be used in other ways.

We will attending the opening ceremony and leaving at the end of the 16th.

We look forward to seeing you all in Vilnius.

Best,

Lucinda

Thanks to Malte, Mohamed and Grace for sharing information about other interesting workshops that we should attend.
thanks also to Tim and Marilia for giving practical information for benefiting social reporting and remote participation during IGF. using such tools will amplify youth voice and make it loud :)
I think that there are also other event related to IGF before and during IGF, like Giganet, maybe Raquel can give us more details.

Hello to YCIG participants,

The Imagining the Internet Center at Elon University is sending four participants to IGF-Vilnius, where we are backing a number of workshops and DCs. Elon undergraduates Drew Smith, Sam Baranowski and Kirsten Bennett will be participating in four different workshops, and the leader of our delegation, Dr. Glenn Scott, a professor at Elon, will also be participating as a speaker at the meeting of the Dynamic Coalition for Core Values.

Our team will be busy collecting interviews, photos and video to post at http://www.imaginingtheinternet.org. They hope you will take the opportunity to participate in the IGF-Vilnius video survey. To get an idea of how it works, you can look at last year’s results here:
http://www.elon.edu/e-web/predictions/igf_egypt/survey.xhtml

We are still in the process of deciding what questions to ask this year. If you would like to make suggestions, you can send them to me by replying to this e-mail.

Here are some questions that have been proposed as possibilities for this year’s survey so far:

  • CLOUD COMPUTING is the primary emerging issue being discussed at this IGF. What are the most important positives and negatives of cloud computing?

  • Now a MOBILE INTERNET question: One reason cloud computing is predicted to grow is the growth of the mobile Internet. What do you see as the biggest challenge, opportunity or change that the mobile revolution brings?

  • A HUMAN RIGHT? Is Internet access a fundamental human right? Explain. Why?

  • THE INTERNET FIVE YEARS FROM NOW: Intermediaries are at work as the Internet grows and people seek security, convenience, information filters, and so on. Five years from now will the Internet be more open and accessible, about the same, or less so? Explain.

  • ABOUT IGF: Why is IGF important? How can it be improved?

  • YOUR HOPE FOR THE FUTURE: What is your greatest hope for the future of the Internet?

  • YOUR CONCERN FOR THE FUTURE: What is your greatest fear or concern for the future of the Internet?

  • IN ONE WORD: Describe the future of the Internet in one word.

Have an excellent conference! I will not be in Vilnius due to other obligations, but I hope to catch some of the action online!

Best,
Janna
