Hello all,
Updates from you:
This list has been quiet lately. What have you been up to when it comes to Youth and IG?
IGF developments
Right now there are lots of key IGF conversations going on. I'm not sure I've fully got my head around exactly what the different processes underway right now are - but it looks like:
- There are discussions in the Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) about the topics for the 2012 IGF (which looks like it's scheduled for November)
- New members are being nominated for the MAG (See http://www.diplointernetgovernance.org/ for some of the people nominated from Civil Society)
- Discussions about reform of the IGF are ongoing
There are ways to feed into these through the different constituencies of the MAG (e.g. Civil Society youth could feed in via the Internet Governance Caucus http://www.igcaucus.org/) but unfortunately I think we might have missed the opportunity for a direct Youth Coalition input - but if anyone understands the process better and is able to suggest ways that we might provide a YCIG input into the agenda setting for IGF2012 please do share with the list.
Timelines look to be tight. You can find a list of currently proposed themes for this years IGF at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_056iP7sVxaXkPI732vTNZfAUrVVRofO1iGBYEsevIo/edit
Grants etc
One of the big challenges for getting stronger youth involvement in IGF is always funding.
I've just been listening to an introduction call about the Internet Society's Community Grants programme (http://internetsociety.org/what-we-do/grants-and-awards/grants/community-grants) which is open to individual Internet Society members to apply to (ISOC membership is free, and you can join whether or not there are local chapters near you). Is anyone interested in developing a proposal around youth and IG for this?
Are members aware of other funding the Youth Coalition on IG should be exploring to be able to support greater participation in IGF 2012 in Baku?
All the best
Tim
This session is based around the perception that IGF should look at
increasing developing/developed country participation within the
global Internet Public Policy arrangements and activities that are not
there yet or are not participating adequately. It also looks at how IG
specifically contributes to human development. Youth and Women is also
an integral part of this session.
There already have been two main sessions where this was launchd in
IGF Vilnius 2010 and led to development mainstreaming across IGF Kenya
2011 and a main session on IG4D set the scene for the event.
Should anyone from this coalition be interested in joining the
planning activity of this main session theme for IGF 2012 in Baku this
year, I would like to hear from you and invite everyone interested in
contributing to the IG4D Main Session planning/development to access a
live wiki sheet that I have set up at the following link till 27th
February 2012:
