The film documentary has been produced by
filmmakers Sharif Korvner and Marina Weiss, HdM
Stuttgart.
Our internationally recognized indigenous guests
like Michael Smith, President and Founder of the
American Indian Film Institute and Festival San
Francisco his wife Cindy Spencer, Tantoo
Cardinal, Joy Harjo, Lurline Wailana McGregor,
Steve and Nakotah LaRance, Gregory Coyes and Jim
Poitras have visited many film festival in the
past, so it is particulary pleasing for us that
INDIANER INUIT: The North American Native Film
Festival in Stuttgart was such a resounding
success. The festival was characterized by a high
level of interest from the public, numerous
informal fringe discussions, encounters with
school classes and teachers, and a relaxed
athmosphere that proved so conducive to the
intercultural dialogue, far removed from the
usual trappings of the film industry, which are
an ever-present feature of festivals in the US
and Canada.
INDIANER INUIT: The North American Native Film
Festival was patronated by the UNESCO, the
UNICEF, the American Indian Film Institute and
Festival San Francisco, and sponsored by the
Embassies of the US and Canada, DaimlerChrysler,
Hotel Unger, Medienteam Stuttgart and several
others. For more information go to

HAUDENOSAUNEE - PEOPLE OF THE LONG HOUSE
>>From October 29 to November 1 Children`s
>>Cultural Center (KiKuZ) of Konstanz is having
>>yet another week of the North American Indians
>>for children and interested parents - the motto
>>being HAUDENOSAUNEE - PEOPLE OF THE LONG HOUSE.
Peace Ambassador and star guest of the event will
be Grammy Award and 10 Time Native American Music
Award winning artist; and Oneida Wolf Clan member
of the Iroquois Confederacy, Joanne Shenandoah.
On November 1, at
3 pm, children and families are invited to attend
her extraordinary concert at the Wolkenstein-Saal
of Konstanz Culture Center.
Joanne Shenandoah, the first Native American who
was nominated for the conveted Grammy Music
Award, performed among others at the White House,
at the famous Carnegie Hall in New York and at
Woodstock `94. Besides she was a speaker of the
World Religious Freedom Conference in Cape Town,
South Africa, together with the Dalai Lama,
Nelson Mandela and other prominent spiritual
leaders.
The focus of the week HAUDENOSAUNEE - PEOPLE OF
THE LONGHOUSE is on the culture of the North
American Iroquois Peoples who developed one of
mankind`s oldest democratic systems.In these
peoples it was the women (clan mothers) who chose
the tribal chiefs and deposed them if they failed
to do their duties. This shows that women
traditionally enjoyed much repect and esteem.
Their work in the community was recognized as
equal. Besides - an aspect of the matriachal
structure of society - all family relationship
and descend was define with regard to the mother.
This particular kind of tribal organization
impressed the white conquerors. Benjamin Franklin
used its central ideas - according to his own
words - as a blueprint for what was to become
constitution of the US. But when this first
constitution came into effect on December 15,
1791, the original investors of these great
principles have never been mentioned and until
now the American children`s school books have
failed to recognize their influence.
Besides many activities like for example "Cooking
With The Three Sisters" children and parents will
be planting a Peace Tree at Konstanz Hérose Park
on November 1 at 11.00 am. The tree will be
blessed in a Native American way by Joanne
Shenandoah. The Iroquois Peace Tree is the Great
White Pine which traditionally has five needles
growing out of one joint. They symbolize the five
founding nations of the Iroquois Confederacy.
Under its roots all the weapons were buried with
which the Iroquois tribes had fought against each
other before the Great Peacemaker`s arrival.
HAUDENOSAUNEE - PEOPLE OF THE LONGHOUSE is
organized in cooperation with Konstanz Culture
Office and the Integration Representative of the
City of Konstanz. More information at
