XL Record's Recording Artist Devendra Banhart
to Hold Benefit Concert for the Native American Rights Fund.
XL Record's Indie-folk
recording artist Devendra Banhart will be celebrating his return to
Colorado, with special benefit concert and VIP reception for the
Native American Right's Fund (NARF). The concert and VIP
reception will take place on September 10th at the Ogden Theatre in
Denver.
Devendra is a strong supporter
of Native American rights and will be donating his performance fee for
the night to NARF. The show will be produced by AEG Live Rocky
Mountain. General admission tickets are $25, and are available
at Ticketmaster. There are also VIP & after show reception
tickets available through NARF or by calling the Development Department
at 303-447-8760. VIP Tickets are $100 (ticket and meet &
greet) and are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by
law.
NARF is one of the oldest
Native American non-profits in the country that has served as a leader
in the Native American civil rights movement. Since 1970, NARF
has served as a non-profit legal and advocacy organization that has
assisted more than 250 tribes with critical issues pertaining to
tribal sovereignty, environmental protection, religious freedom,
government accountability, subsistence hunting and fishing, Indian
child welfare and education. NARF specializes in providing legal
assistance to tribes, American Indian individuals and organizations
who lack adequate resources for legal representation. NARF's
national headquarters are based in Boulder, Colorado with branch
offices in Washington D.C. and Anchorage, Alaska.
Devendra Banhart exploded on
the international music scene in 2002 quickly winning a coterie of
devoted fans as well as an unusually hefty amount of critical kudos
right from the outset. His latest release is Smokey Rolls Down Thunder
Canyon, recorded at home in Topanga, CA throughout the Spring of 2007
co-produced by Noah Georgeson and Devendra. The critics'
acclaim and the size of his audience both at home and abroad earned by
his debut Oh Me Oh My The Way The Day Goes By The Sun Is Setting Dogs
Are Dreaming Lovesongs Of The Christmas Spirit was impressive to begin
with and increased dramatically with each subsequent release: 2004's
Rejoicing In The Hands, Nino Rojo and 2005's Cripple Crow. Smokey
Rolls Down Thunder Canyon is his second release on XL
Recordings.
"We are honored and
overwhelmed by Devendra Banhart's willingness to do this benefit
concert for NARF," stated NARF Executive Director John Echohawk.
Echohawk, who has been named one of the 100 most influential lawyers
in America by the National Law Journal, also added "We are also
grateful to the Guacamole Fund for their efforts to help organize this
event with Devendra for NARF. NARF is 100% reliant on charitable
contributions and proceeds from special events such as concerts like
this to support our ongoing work to defend Native American
rights."
