At the Young Americans Christmas Show in La Mirada last December, the
topic was "floated" among those present to see what interest alumni
might have in an Adopt A YA Program. The response was overwhelmingly
positive and so it's now ready to be up and running for this year's
group of current Young Americans!

Recent gatherings constantly remind us how special and important our
experiences in The Young Americans have been. Most important of those
experiences is the personal contact and the deep and loving
friendships which have lasted through the many years.

A grassroots idea has arisen from the alumni to build an Adopt A YA
program to bring the Young American Alumni together with the current
Young American members, in friendship, to provide all Young Americans
with the unique opportunity to personally gain a more complete
understanding and appreciation for the group and its cast members,
from its beginnings over 40 years ago, up through today.

Most current Young Americans, similar to our generations, are from out
of state or, in several cases, out of the country. Thus, they are a
long way from home and experiencing many different things for the
first time. We feel this program will provide a great opportunity for
us to share our emotional support and experiences with them through
this program to bridge across the years and exchange the wealth of
experiences, ours and theirs!

For more information about this program and how to participate, please
go to:

http://www.youngamericans.org/adopt_a_ya.htm

Please join in by July 31st so that you can adopt a YA for the new YA
year that begins this September.

Be looking for a bright, colorful and informative message about this
in your personal email in the next day or so. (Be sure to check your
spam file so it doesn't get lost there!) And if you are in touch with
other YA alums who might not be on our mailing list but who you think
might like to participate, please forward the message to them as well.
For any questions that you might have that are not answered in the
email or on the website, feel free to contact me at yam...@yahoo.com.

The Adopt a YA registrations are coming in on a daily basis! Hurray!
There
are some questions that have arisen and so let's try to clear them up
here:

1) Q.It says "Register by July 31". Can I still register? Is there
still "room" for me to register?
A. Absolutely! The committee just set that date to get the ball
rolling!
The sooner the better, however. We have 35 alums registered and there
are
approximately 150 YAs to match. Alums can register to adopt up through
September 1 when the current YAs register. Matching happens right
after that.

2) Q. I'm not sure how much time I have to commit to this adoption.
What
am I expected to do if I sign up?
A. Several people have asked this. The simple answer is that alums
will
contact the YA by email or mail right after they get their contact
information.
Introduce yourself, provide some kind of YA experience information,
and just
get acquainted with your YA adoptee. The objective is to build a
communication bridge with the past and present and to provide friendly
and
understanding emotional support to kids who are far from home. What
happens beyond that
will be individual with each pair. The relationship might be limited
to a few
emails or be the beginning of a life-long friendship. That will be
determined by the people involved.

3) Q. Is it really possible to adopt a YA if I cannot provide the $50
donation at this time?
A. Yes. While, of course, the donation is important, the MOST
important
thing is that every YA kid who wants to be adopted is able to be
adopted.
Some alums have generously increased their donations beyond the $50
and that
will help us to make sure that goal is accomplished. Incidentally,
donations may
be made with a credit card on line or with a check. All donations are
tax-deductible.

4) Q. I deleted the email with the information about how to do this.
Where can I go to get more information and to adopt?
A. Go to YoungAmericans.org and look at the bottom left hand side of
the
front page. See the mention of Adopt a YA program, click on it and
follow the
directions.

This is a brand new program, started as a grassroots project from the
alumni. We are excited and hopeful that this will blend our experience
with that of
the current kids to build a really strong bond.
