Dear Chris,
yes, the judgement by the supreme court compels us to act..
the news compels us... but who dares to act? let us do something.... for missing chidren, for Falks for Munnis...
The supreme court order can be followed up... because we Don Boscos were the first to get such an order from the chief justice of Allahabad where our tracking system was put up as a model .. but that was four to five years ago
because Fr. Antony TV and Maria the regional had sent out SOS calls to help in Lucknow when the opportunity was there and we did not act.
we are no where there... I think almost all who could act had to move out...
can we look deeper and find the roots causes and then let us act at least now...
Regarding the procedures, requested in the PIL, the national Commission ahd asked Don Bosco to lead national research program to put up the guidelines, with BANGALROE as the base, with NIPPCD. Fr. Joe prabhu and Edward would have the original project proposal for the research
At least let us act now...
It is about systems... Regional and provincials are the ones responsible for putting relevant systems... perhaps mistakes were made.. but they can be corrected if we have the courage to look at it squarely talk about it... will we act now?
not only because it is relevant, but because we had already created a precedent. The Chief Justice of Allahabad sitting with our DB activists of Lucknow in 2008 and passing a judgement, made Don Bosco a respondent, to provide a solution for missing children... and the government was behind us!!!
Not only was Don Bosco made a respondent in that order, but all chief secretaries of Home department, Education department, women and Child department called together all their senior IAS and other officers and mandated that they meet regularity and report to the chief Justice on progress made...on the sue of our system within the government system
The chief justice, Amar Sarann, called up one of the young activists, about a month ago. a UPite, not from our circles who is still colelge student working with trafficked children (Rajesh saini ph 099351064780.. and wanted to know whether the reach of Don Bosco with the missing children has increased...
Fr Joe Prabhu is also met him once after that
demand of the hour is to act now....
I hope someone from YaR will be able to share the relevant order, of 2008/9 where Don Bosco is mentioned many times so that what we too can be proudly be present in the forefront of the system
at least can the order be shared...
One of the old boys of Ashalayam, an MSW from TISS ( ph 09661634525) was the one who ran after the chief justice to help him realize what can be done.. He got the judgement it is very comprehensive.... Who is there to act now?... who is acting... he will surely help out to do something if you call him.
Hope thee will be some follow up action
with warm regards
G

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday issued notices to the Centre and
state governments on a PIL for setting up of an advanced scientific
mechanism to investigate and recover missing children, with over 1.17
lakh reported missing in the last two years.
“In India, in the period of January 2008 to January 2010, over 1.17
lakh children have gone missing in 392 districts in India. Out of them,
41,546 are still untraced,” said senior advocate H S Phoolka appearing
for NGO petitioner ‘Bachpan Bachao Andolan’.
A bench of Justices Altamas Kabir and S S Nijjar issued notices to
the governments asking for their response within four weeks but
appreciated the efforts of police in recovering a majority of the
missing children.
The petitioner said, “The instances of missing children are highest
in Maharashtra followed by West Bengal, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh. The
number of untraced missing children is highest in West Bengal followed
by Maharashtra, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh.”
The petitioner sought a direction to the Union government to formulate a National Action Plan
on the issue of missing children which should include investigation,
recovery, counseling and a standard operating procedures (SOP) for law
enforcing agencies on coordinating their efforts. It said on the efforts
of Delhi High Court, the police had made operational some SOPs.
