Wishes to all of you from Delhi YaR Office!

An year back I had written to you regarding Bill on Protection of Children from Sexual Abuse.

Many of you then responded with your observations and comments about the contents of that bill and

they were very useful in presenting our observations to the Government. This time I am approaching you with another request.

Since over an year YaR Forum had been part of many discussions at different platforms (Govt: and NGO) regarding the revision

of the National Child Policy.The Govt: of India has used the ideas that were generated at such platforms to make a draft of the child policy.

Government is making it available to the concerned public for further reactions before it is finalised.Please find that draft attached.

We are persons who work with children ( persons up to 18 yrs) all over India. Their protection and care is of utmost importance to us.

Hence I request you to study the attached draft of the child policy and share with us your valuable observations.

Your insights could surely make huge positive differences in the lives of millions and millions of children in India.

The last date for conveying our suggestions to the Government is 5th of August. Could we expect your reactions regarding the

contents of this draft child policy by 2nd August. It would be a good idea if you could read and discuss it in your community,

with your staff, in your NGO forum etc. It is a worthwhile issue to bring people together and the issue is non threatening.

Dear Mathew Thomas,

Here are my suggestions. Hope they will be useful. I am riding on the old file. My suggestions are in blue. I have added a column for comments. I have integrated some recent experiences: on child labour, media, accountability, compensation, protection of institutons working for children, deaths of children in hospitals, and so on. I did not have time to give the references. My criteria has been what needs to be done, not whether they are going to accept or not. I do not hesitate to ask for anything provided that is good for the children. Slowly these are likely to be understood and accepted.
