SOUTH BRUNSWICK -- Of all the tributes to Derek Jeter, this may be the corniest.

Literally.

The retiring Yankees captain's face is now etched into a five-acre corn maze atVonThun Farms

on Ridge Road in South Brunswick.

The corn-maze design was originally going to be a tractor with pumpkins in it, but the company that helps the VonThun family with its corn maze had a better idea, and it's still great in September and October.

"We are right in the middle of Yankees territory," said Cindy VonThun of the VonThun Farms. "No matter which way you turn, everybody just loves Derek Jeter. He's just the all-around good guy."

The corn maze opens for the season on Sept. 20, and, like many a Jeter World Series run, lasts until the end of October. The corn is at about three feet right now and growing.

The Yanks' shortstop, meanwhile, is retiring at the end of this season after a long, storied career of making New York happy and Boston sad.

VonThun was asked whether she's expecting any celebrity visits from the captain himself.

"Wouldn't that be awesome?" VonThun said. "You know how many people have said that to me? 'Is he going to come?'"

There are two different paths you can take through the Jeter maze. The first is shorter, and includes an anti-bullying message from Spookley the pumpkin. The longer route is for the more adventurous types, and it might take an hour to get through the words "THANKS CAPTAIN CLUTCH" or Jeter's No. 2 on a pinstripe background.

The farm has done sports themes before, including a tribute to Rutgers football players. The Scarlet Knight mascot and a starting quarterback showed up to complete the maze. But the farm got its biggest reaction ever when it posted an aerial photo of the just-completed Jeter maze on Facebook.

"Kids as well as adults, they look up to (Jeter), they respect him," VonThun said. "It's kind of cool to get that response to it."
