Early History of Tallahatchie by W. S. Eskridge Copied from Winter
2011 Pioneer
I have copied one paragraph from the Early History of Tallahatchie by
W. S. Eskridge, Chapter 11.
Opposition to using dogs was that they ran deer out of the country.
In the fall of and winter millions of wild pigeons and thousands upon
thousands of wild ducks visited the country and were killed by the
thousands and by hundreds. Pigeons from a large area of country would
collect in one location to roost. Tens of thousands would assemble at
these places, and such was their number that branches of trees from
two to six inches thick by hundreds would be broken down and hundreds
would be killed by them. Citizens in the surrounding country could
the next morning gather them up by bags full.
