Think of it as a type of action. The sellers will fight to try and get
you to buy from them. The circumstances of the sellers are usually quite
varied, some with stock problems, others trying to meet quotas, others
liquidating, others more competitive, etc. These and other circumstances

The goal is that by receiving a variety of price quotes and sales offers
you are much more likely to make a wise purchase. What's more, if you
like, you can name the price you are willing to pay and perhaps you will
find a seller who will accept this.
