Hi guys,

I own a yak 52 TW built 2006 in Romania.Have always problems with extending oil temperature.

There is a Positech oilcooler installed.Has anyone of you a good solution for solving this problem or does anyone change the oil coller?

Roger Shadick has a kit that moves the oil cooler to the wing root.  I changed mine and absolutely works great.

We have found that the factory installation of the oil coolers may allow the oil cooler to stay in "bypass".  My first recommendation is to swap the oil cooler lines at the oil cooler.
This reversal of flow will prevent the oil pump from opening the bypass valve in the oil cooler.

Wolfgang,

There are several TW's in the U.S.A. that have absolutely no problem with high oil temperatures. By either switching the oil lines, as Cliff Coy mentioned, or replacing the cooler, they seem to work fine.

My TW (#1, made in 2001) NEVER has any problem with high oil temperatures and the cooler housing, inlet, and door are factory original (NO modifications).

Keep us posted with your progress,
Steve Dalton

I Had a long talk with the Positec engineers and they told me that a
some of the oil coolers were built with the thermo bypass machined at
a depth that does not allow the thermo bypass to seal thus allowing
the oil to bypass the cooler all the time. Positec has the correct
dimension to check to see if the cooler install is machined correctly.
Positec will give you this information. Positec offered to replace/
repair the coolers for two years after the problem was found but that
time has passed. My TW never had a oil cooling issues and has a
cooler with no defects. This would lead me to believe it is not the
location or installation of the cooler itself. I mentioned this to 7
other owners of TW's and not one owner knew what I was talking about
or had ever heard of the problem with the coolers themselves. All of
them were trying other methouds of "fixes" Seven owners represent a
large number of uniformed TW's.
One of my friends just purchased a TW with the hoses turned around all
bassackwarks and he can no longer controll the temp with the oil door.
Again several TW's work correctly. One would have to ask why does
mine work? I talked to the oil cooler in the wing guy and he was not
that interested in selling me a kit to put it in the wing. I was only
interested in the visual aspects and speed , he told me that it did
not reduce drag and would cost somewhere around $4,500 US. He also
kept changing the price while I was talking to him??? Just my TWO
cents worth of information so you get what you pay for. New cooler
around $1000.00
So make sure you need one or that it will fix the problem before
spending the money.
