Just trying to get a general idea for what type parachute works well
in the TW. I'm 5'8" and need all the height I can get from the seat
pack thickness. I've flown with a Strong 306 in the Nanchang and have
been told that the Strong 304 is a better fit for the Yak-52. I'm
also looking at the Softie Warbird Seat Pack.

If "better fit" means for height issues because the 52 seat is not
adjustable, that may be true. But the 304 is sloppy in the seat pan.
The seat pans are almost identical in the CJ and Yak 52 and thus the 306
Squadron Pack fits very nice in the pan. I'm the same height as you are
and I used a 306 in my 52. It positioned me perfectly height wise even
with a helmet on.

Hi Kilo
If you want to try out a 304 in my plane you welcome , Brian also has the
same chute as I do in his.
I have three different thickness of cushions you can experiment with. My Gib
uses the 3 inch one.
I think you will need a thick one. On long flights I pull the chute more
forward in the bucket and it takes
some pressure off my tailbone. The TW has that small ledge at the rear of
the seat which moves the seat
pack forward a little anyway.

Thanks Dale,

I've have a single Strong 306 I'm using now and I still need a cushion under it for height, so you're right about needing a thicker cushion.  I'll have to go out and measure this particular 306 thickness again because my notes say 6 inches.  The newer 306 Seatpack advertises @ 8 inches of thickness and the 304 with a 4 inch cushion would have a 7 inch height advantage.  I'll probably get a sheepskin cover for the seat as well.
I thought Brian was still shopping around.  Guess he has already made his choice in acquiring a Strong Chute.  Most Yak/Nanchang Owners choose their product.
