I can't get this to work, what am I missing? Does the icon need to follow some special rules or something?

yad --window-icon=$HOME/Eget/.Ikoner/Pizza.png --title="A title" --text="Some text"

In this case Pizza.png is a png (obviously), 256 × 256 pixels.

The result is a dialogue with no icon at all.
I have tried a few different icons but none of them shows up.

Check your window settings for the inclusion of a window icon in the list.

I am using openbox and the config tool needs an "N" included to make
window icons appear

Window settings where? Are you talking about yad or the whole system?

What config tool is that?

That would be obconf (specifically when using openbox)

What window manager are you using?

this mean than yad can handle your icon. check your window manager ewmh settings. and try set the window icon from a current icon theme or stock icons by its name, for example - yad --window-icon="gtk-ok" --text="icon test"

yad --window-icon="gtk-ok" --text="icon test" – No icon was displayed.

My operating system is Ubuntu 12.04, so I guess the answer to that question would be Compiz, wouldn't it?

I have had a look around on a virtual live Ubuntu 12.04 with compiz settings installed, and no sign of any option there to show window icons. The default unity theme does not show them by default. I have also looked at my xubuntu installation and it seems that some window themes display window icons and others don't. There is no gui way I can find of "ticking" this box.

Looks like you may need to install something like My Unity or Advanced Settings (Gnome 3) to get access to the settings you need.

Unless Viktor knows a yad way around this ;)

Thanks! I'll check that out later. I think I actually installed Unity Tweak Tool at some point…
