Hi,

I've noticed this issue for a while and wasn't sure if it's really an issue, or more of a security thing.

I am running ZNC on my server and it runs perfectly fine and I'm able to connect to it at any time with a desktop client.. But it only works sometimes in yaaic.

In ZNC, I'm using a mod called 'Away_Nick', which appends '[AFK]' to my nickname after 30 seconds of detaching all clients.

When I try to connect to my znc server, I basically need to set my nickname as exactly what it is at the time of me connecting.

Example: I haven't opened and IRC client in 2 hours, so my nickname on the network is Cory[AFK]. I have to make my nickname Cory[AFK] in yaaic. If I don't do that, it connects to my znc but doesn't display anything other than the server motd.

It seems like there might be a security precaution in place to prevent me from receiving messages that aren't being sent to me, but I'm just speculating.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I'd love to be able to connect to my ZNC without changing my nickname depending on if I'm connected from other clients or not..

It seems to me this is a bug in ZNC, or in your script... I mean this is not how IRC is supposed to work. A workaround could be added for your particular setup, but this is a very specific and unnatural need.

How do other IRC clients behave in this situation ?

I don't quite follow..

The setup I have works perfectly fine in any other IRC client. I can set my name to anything from the client, and it connects fine.. But for some reason the current nickname on the network and my yaaic nickname have to be the same.
