Happy Friday Everyone!
As a reminder, we will be doing a Claggett Regatta-focused boat work day this Sunday, June 4 at 10 am. We will meet at the Sailing Pavilion at 10 am and then head over to the boat shop to pack up Martins, install a rudder on a Martin in the shop, and decide
which 4 will be heading to Newport and which 2 can be launched. We may not have access to the marina launch/may not have a staff to drive the tractor on Sunday but if we do and time permits we can try to launch the 2 boats that are staying. We will also pack
to make sure the sails are ready to go and the sonar is all set.
Please make sure to RSVP if you are attending Sunday
to volunteer, l
unch is available in the dining hall so we need an accurate count!
June 25 is our next boat work day to re-launch the Martins returning from Clagett and get everything set. The sailing
season will start July 2 and we will run every Sunday following that through August 20th and
will be back to 6 Martins in the water and the Sonar, so we will plan to have a total of 12 sailors each day. With being back
to full capacity, we will also need to increase the number of volunteers we have in order to safely operate. Please help spread the word, and share the link below, that we are looking for volunteers and that we can train folks. We also are glad to have a full-time
food service director back and so we will be able to return to providing lunch on sailing days this summer!
Other updates:
-
The summer sailing schedule is up and volunteers can log in to sign up and
make sure you complete the mandatory background check for the season.
You can check that out here. As mentioned
before, we need to recruit some new volunteers so please make a push in your circles and share this link with them.
Volunteer background checks must be completed every year.
- For the committee, we will work to rebuild interest this summer, and moving forward we plan to meet quarterly on Zoom (September, November, March & May) and keep in contact over email for the rest of the time. With this,
we will be looking for a new chair of the committee who would also sit on our main Chingachgook council and have fundraising responsibilities.
If you are interested in this, let me know.
- June 4 - Boat work day for Claggett prep. Since we will not be launching the 4 martins or sonar prior to the regatta, we will use this day to pack up the gear and sort out trailers or other needs. We also will need help finalizing install of the
rudder on the Martin that has been in our boat shop for the past year. June 25: Boat work day to set up for the general sailing season. All 6 Martins will be back in the water and we can clean and rig everything.

September Sailing: We have a day we will need volunteer assistance on Sept 9 (Saturday) as we are hosting the CDYMCA Circle of Champs program. This would be an opportunity to introduce youth and their families to adaptive sailing and hopefully recruit
some new sailors and volunteers for next year. Regatta - as of now, I have a 1-day opportunity booked for September 10 (we are somewhat limited with other programs and weddings we already have on the books, the only date available for 2-day races would be
in October). The following weekend we have an MS sailing Day scheduled for the 16th which JR is organizing and we will also need volunteers.
- Website: most updates are complete, but let me know if you see anything lacking!
Thank you and let me know if there are further questions!
Best wishes,
