Clagett Sailing just completed The C. Thomas Clagett, Jr. Memorial Clinic and Regatta which was held in Newport, Rhode Island from June 21st through the 26, at Fort Adams State Park.  YKnot Sailing participated for the fifth time this year, bringing 4 Martin 16's along with a team of sailors and a team of volunteers.

The weather for the entire week was nothing short of perfect.  The race committee ran a spectacular three days of racing and was challenged only by the conflict between the wind and the current which made setting the marks extremely difficult, and definitely added to the sailors' challenges.

There was plenty of competition in the Martin Fleet, with a number of experienced sailors, including this year's successful defending champion, a year round Martin Sailor from California, Edward LeRoy.  YKnot Sailor Nick Bryan-Brown was joined by YKnot Sailor Al Pierce, a Clagett veteran going back 20 years, and brother of the late adaptive sailor Robbie Pierce, whose name is connected with a number of adaptive sailing initiatives, including the Clagett.  YKnot Sailor JR Hardenburgh was joined by rookie Dan Scher.  YKnot boats were also sailed by Tim Brown with Dana McKinnon-Tucker, and Californian Steve Edensen with Burlington neighbor Steve Safford .

During Friday's racing, Nick took a boom to the lip which led to his early departure from the racing that day.  Six stitches and good night's sleep put him back on the water for racing on Saturday.  Sunday morning, however, Nick determined his most prudent course of action was to withdraw.  That opened the door for JR and Dan to strive for a third place finish in the fleet, which they secured during the last race of the day!

Hats off to all of or sailors and their crew, as well as volunteers Chris Busch, Anthony DeBonis, Spencer Raggio and Dan Kennedy who drove boats down and back from the regatta.  Be sure and thank Anthony and Chris for changing the shredded tire on one of the trailers.  When you are on the Camp Chingachgook waterfront, be sure and thank the waterfront staff who helped pack two of the Martins for travel.

Tim struggled with the single tiller so Fene engineered a two handle system so he could push and pull forward and back with both hands
Better, but he would probably be best served with the joystick which he probably won’t admit
