Hi all,
I think we must be there.......

Mock BBMP Elections to protest Mockery of Elections

In view of Government of Karnataka's continued reluctance to hold immediate elections to the BBMP, Lok Satta Party Karnataka has decided to express its anguish via a mock election to be conducted on Sunday, 21st of February 2010 - the earlier notified date for elections. Lok Satta will open a mock polling booth at Town Hall at 10:00 AM and conduct the proceedings of an election.

The program is intended to highlight the casual attitude of the Government towards operationalising grassroots democracy. Speaking on behalf of all the citizens of Namma Bengaluru, who are unrepresented in BBMP for more than three years, Lok Satta intends to send a loud and clear message to the Government to fulfill its constitutional obligation and adhere to High Court ruling by conducting local body elections before March 30th, 2010.

Lok Satta has invited all the political parties, Resident Welfare Associations, Civic Organisations to participate in the mock elections and reaffirm their demand for early elections to the BBMP. JaagteRaho!, SmartVote have expressed support for this cause. A number of prominent citizens of Bangalore will also participate in the mock polls.

What: MOCK POLLS TO BBMP
When: 10:00AM 21st February 2010
Where: Town Hall, Bangalore

hi,

this IS my personal view which may not appeal to MOST of our friends.

1. we see so much of civil works unprecedented earlier
2. most of the candidates want to become a CORPORATOR, gambling to spend anything upto 1 crore. and the political parties are a game
3. the corporators of past years have amassed LAND (and also money) which belonged to the people. The land so grabbed is LOST FOR EVER from the people
3. The  2 main pillars of corruption in the BBMP are- the corporator and the BBMP staff.
Dont you think that one less is better

I for one think that this animated suspension of ELECTION good for all of us UNTIL
we select our own candidates

regards

Venu,
Having corrupt Corporator & other elected representatives is a failure of the citizens to enforce their authority over the elected representatives. Its not right to say that there is corruption in the society. But as citizens, we are morally responsible for the actions of our representatives.

How do we go about this.

The fact that our Fundamental Right to elect our representative has been suppressed by 2cent polytickitions is another issue.

We need to tackle these 2 issues separately... But also at the same time accept that these 2 issues are also related.

This is believe is the whole basis on which your organization "Gandhigiri" was established.

Best wishes,
Raj

I fully agree with Mr Venugopal. Unless there is accountability merely holding early elections without addressing the core problem is only agreeing to live the cancer. It would be better if we deal with working around a proper environment which would be more conducive for the Administrator and the Commissioner of BBMP who helplessly have to follow selfish politicians instead of qualified city planners for the improvement

Hi,
I too agree with Venu,
But I am saying that its the citizen's responsibility for the conduct
of their representatives. And corruption in politics is not an excuse
for delaying elections (mind you.. thats not the reason for the delay
in the BBMP elections)

Lets work on that, while addressing all the issues in a more efficient
manner.

Best Regards,
Rajeev
