Hello I have a xylotex box from several years ago. The wires coming out the back of the box are long and I'd like to add plug jacks to the back of my box (or cut the wires and add connectors to the wires that are coming out the grommet hole).

This will allow me to disconnect the box more easily from the larger machine. I can leave the machine "wired" and then have a single point I add the boxes and accessories. When moving the machine, since it is smaller, I can disconnect and pack up the boxes.

Any recommendations for jack type? Mouser or digikey links are appreciated ;-)

Also, does anyone have a link or name for the white 4pin connectors found on the xylotex steppers and wiring? I may like to get more of these regardless.

Searching around tonight, I found these Molex connectors, which I think are probably the ones my drive box shipped with.

Series 2163 Molex, Male and Female, Standard .093" Pin and Socket Connectors
Series 1189 Molex, Female crimp pins
Series 1190 Molex, Male crimp pins

Then for panel mount stuff, there's these aviation connectors:

Going to order some of each...

Awesome. Thanks for those numbers. That helps! I found panel mount versions of those you poster. It should look similar to this random internet photo once I'm done

Nice thing is that extension cables can use the same connector as the motor. Easy

I did get some of those aircraft jacks and they're awesome but I think I will skip in favor of the molex. To keep it all the same.

Hi,

The aircraft jacks screw down so are harder to accidentally remove.  The molex connectors can come unplugged "relatively" easily.  Unplugging a motor (or plugging in) while power is applied can destroy the drive chip, so just beware.

Good point. Since I'm doing surgery... can you recommend any different connector for the motors then? Otherwise, I haven't had any issues with pullouts ;-)

Hi,

You'll probable be fine.  What I would recommend doing is tie-wrapping the 4 cables together close to the back panel of your box.  Thus if you jar one cable, it still has the friction of the other three helping to keep it in.  Or, take a second tie wrap  and feed it through a couple small holes in the back panel and loop around the first.  Then you can kind of 'chain' the first tie wrap to the box.
