Larry, There's a huge space difference between the Spartan Manor, and their Spartanette models. The Spartanette has a door that's about four to five inches taller, and the head room is about six inches taller than a Manor model. Combine that with the fact that the Manor looses interior storage space because of the curved roof to wall seam, and also at each curved corner, the Spartanette has a more roomy interior.
My Spartanette is the smallest trailer they ever made, its a single axle 24' with the early 1948 round glass door windows in both doors. I think they made this small size Spartanette for only a few years, maybe 1947 to 1950? With 80 inches of head room, you can hang an air conditioner on the roof and not hit your head on the duct hanging down inside the trailer. The weight is posted at 3980 gross (no bathroom). I towed it 400 miles back from Arizona over Thanksgiving with my F150, and did not know it was behind me. I used a weight distribution hitch, but no sway controls coming through windy Indio, and Cabazon.
I have not started the restoration yet. I have just been collecting parts. Found a nice center dinette booth (with grey crushed Ice Formica) out of a 1951 35 foot Spartanette Royal Mansion. Bought a nice Panel Ray heater at Pismo Beach Rally. Bought several missing interior Spartan cabinets, drawers, and a double sink from Chris (aka Trailer Trasher). We will be changing the floor plan to include a bathroom like Craig Dorsey did on two 24 footers he restored, and the same as the floor plan that Flyte Camp did on their recent 24 footer restoration.

On the road, the trailer was simple to pull, just like a small U-Haul. There was zero fishtailing, and because I drive a Toyota Tundra, which has a large towing capacity, we often forgot we had a trailer attached to the back. The only caveat: we did find it hard to back up. The Deluxe is fairly long for its size and can jackknife due to its single axle. That said, if you get into a backup bind, you can unhitch the trailer and move it easily by hand.
Up top we also had a roof box and racks where we hauled our skis on the way to Jackson. Both of those sat on a Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform, which also held a Rhino Rack Foxwing swing-out awning that provides 270 degrees of protection. Our Foxwing came with the Tapered Zip Extension accessories, so we had zip-on tent walls that hung down from the awning and effectively tripled our living space. The awning and walls held up well to rain, and the awning itself created a lot of shade during sunny afternoons in the desert.
First, I don't know if your talking bumper pull or gooseneck. It seems(Bison's website) they just deal in gooseneck w/lqs exclusively. We bought a 2004 Alumasport 3horse slant bp so we can give info on that. I also heard Bison has new ownership since our purchase so any info we provide could be different now. Overall we are happy with it and when purchasing it, we found it comparable to Keifer and Titan trailers. We did opt. for collapsable rear tack and 5200 pound axle upgrade. Only major complaint is quality of primer used, since we have had rust developing after 1st winter's use and had to remove and re paint. They should run the rump wall lining higher(not sure if newer ones have this). The trailer does pull nice, 17 year old daughter hauls with it, without problems. It is true you get what you pay for, but at the time in our area, it was the best trailer for the price at 3000-4000 dollars less than the all aluminum trailer. Although next trailer will be all aluminum, due to salt usage in Illinois and hauling to many winter shows. Good luck trailer shopping
They are good trailers, I've had mine for 2 years now. Bison and Dixie Horse and Mule here in Alabama are awesome to work with if you have trouble. We don't live in a perfect world and there are good and bad things about every trailer made. All I know is . . . After buying my Bison and not spending 30K more for a comparable trailer, I have more money to buy other STUFF. I don't think you'd be unhappy with your purchase.
I have a 2004 Alumasport and I'm very satisifed with it. I bought it new and have used it at least one or two weekends a month for most of the year. I'm considering moving up to a 4H (currently have a 3H w/ 8' sw & slide) and the Bison's will be the first ones I look at if I decide to go bigger. They've had some issues in the past which can be found discussed in detail if you search this forum. However, I'm perfectly happy with mine and have noticed a LOT more of them parked in the camping area at the shows we go to. Leaking in the fiberglass roof is often the complaint but mine has an aluminum roof. We have had some issues with the joints in the LQ plumbing needing to be retightened but that's been pretty easy to resolve. It's not perfect and there are a few things I'd change in mine but there were things I didn't like about the "big" name trailers too. I was in Fletcher a couple of months ago and got the chance to walk through several on the lot there and found that on the new ones they've fixed most of the things I don't like about mine. Other than continuing to use the same tiny little shower they've made a lot of improvements.
