Hey xyce-users,

I am trying to build xyce6.9 on cygwin and I am having troubles when configuring xyce for Serial use. I found 2 similar problem posts in this group, but wasnt able to fix it for me (1. https://groups.google.com/g/xyce-users/c/jLEobgm-2_k; 2. https://groups.google.com/g/xyce-users/c/WaSu3_EX6QQ).

Somehow I am not able to attach the log file. so I will just copy paste it below.

I hope anyone has had this issue and knows a solution.

It is difficult to say for sure what your issue is from the file you've provided, but it appears that the Trilinos libraries do not exist in the ARCHDIR you have provided ("ARCHDIR=/cygdrive/c/0_Arbeitsordner/Cygwin/Simulator/XyceLibs/Serial"). Before Xyce's configure will succeed, Trilinos and all other dependent libraries and packages must have been installed. Here you're not building teuchoscore, Xyce's configure is simply looking for it where you told it to. It does not appear to be there, because the linker is saying it can't find that library:

configure:22292: checking for main in -lteuchoscore

/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-cygwin/7.4.0/../../../../x86_64-pc-cygwin/bin/ld: cannot find -lteuchoscore

collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

In fact, it appears that the directory /cygdrive/c/0_Arbeitsordner/Cygwin/Simulator/XyceLibs/Serial doesn't even exist. One of the first things that configure does is check whether the ARCHDIR you have provided exists, and if it DOES exist then it uses it in various ways. Since that directory doesn't even appear in the compile line above, it tells me that configure couldn't find the ARCHDIR directory you provided, and so didn't use anything at all. ARCHDIR is really just a suggestion to configure about where to look for third party libraries that you've installed yourself in addition to searching the normal places. We use it to search for Trilinos if it exists, but otherwise the compiler and linker's default paths determine what will be searched for libraries.

Please note also that Xyce 6.9 is a couple of years old and we are no longer supporting it. The current version of Xyce is 7.3, which was released last week. We have confirmed that it builds correctly on Windows with Cygwin if the procedure in the Building Guide is followed. The building guide was also updated very recently to add additional information relevant to Cygwin builds.
